Running thread

I have still been mainly walking but throwing in 30/45secs of running every few mins to just get used to doing it and how it feels which might sound daft! I did attempt a day which was just a run but my knees were in pieces which I think is partly down to my weight, so still need to work on getting lighter as that will definitely help!

Doing a minimum of 5k a day at the moment, my 5k time of mainly walking with some runs is around 41mins so plenty of scope to improve.

Looking forward to shops opening back up as I would like to get a gait analysis done and get some better shoes. Using a pair of Adidas NMD at the moment which aren't too bad but not proper running shoes by any account.

Came across Garmin Forerunner 735XT GPS Watch and HRM strap Bundle for under £200 which looks pretty good. Anyone got any advice or experience they can share?
Currently use an Honor Band which is ok but if I'm going to take this more serious I'd like the gadgets and gizmos haha, can use it for more than just running also which is handy.
The 735 is really for triathlon mate so if you’re looking at swimming and cycling then it’s ideal, if only running I’d look for something else. Great price that mind you

I do want to get out cycling but I dont ever see myself doing a triathlon but who knows haha. What would you recommend if just for running?

Tried to do a bit of research myself but i am struggling to work out what I do or dont need. The 735 seems to tick a lot of boxes and the heart rate strap looks interesting, bit of a geek so i always like the gadgets haha.

Just got back from a 5km, 41mins. Again mixed in walking and running. Beautiful day for it (down in Kent anyway!)

For the price you’ve mentioned I’d get it mate, Especially with the heart rate belt though the watch gives you that without. I have a computer in the bike anyway, so needed it for the swimming, has a feature for during a tri to calculate transition stages too.

I'm the same as yourself, I can do 5k in 32/33 mins as my PB on a uphill park run. I buzz off that but then see on social media or on here for instance people doing 5ks in less than 20 mins.

Just do what's best for you :)

That is the beauty of running. There is always someone who will beat you so just go out, enjoy it and only compete with yourself.

Cheers mate, the missus is convincing me I don’t need it hah. Reckons I should stick at a bit longer before I start buying all the equipment....

I did 6 mins 43 a couple of weeks back. To see if I could break the 7 min mark. Hard work though full on sprint.

Yesterday did a 3 mile averaged 7 min 24 secs.

I’ve done a couple of 7 mile’s lately One was averaging 8 min 04 and the most recent was averaging 8 min 32 just glad to finish the distance as suffering from hangover.

How the hell people do Marathon’s at an average pace below 7 mins is madness. My dad broke 3 hours for a marathon . He was obsessed with doing Tour of Tameside etc.... I think set up by Ron Hill
