Running thread

A friend of mine takes rose hip food supplement tablets. He is convinced it helps his knee joints. This isn't a recommendation, as I don't have knee problems, but it might be worth looking into.

I think that's good - a very consistent performer.......
Of course it is

My post came across a bit weird by the way - some of the lads on here cover big distances!

I'm not sure whether it's better to work on speed or to cover larger distances at a slower pace. Very new to this still, this is one of the few genuinely educational threads on Bluemoon.

Mix it up mate, 1 long slow run a week plus a couple of faster shorter ones is usually best I think.

I have still been mainly walking but throwing in 30/45secs of running every few mins to just get used to doing it and how it feels which might sound daft! I did attempt a day which was just a run but my knees were in pieces which I think is partly down to my weight, so still need to work on getting lighter as that will definitely help!

Doing a minimum of 5k a day at the moment, my 5k time of mainly walking with some runs is around 41mins so plenty of scope to improve.

Looking forward to shops opening back up as I would like to get a gait analysis done and get some better shoes. Using a pair of Adidas NMD at the moment which aren't too bad but not proper running shoes by any account.

Came across Garmin Forerunner 735XT GPS Watch and HRM strap Bundle for under £200 which looks pretty good. Anyone got any advice or experience they can share?
Currently use an Honor Band which is ok but if I'm going to take this more serious I'd like the gadgets and gizmos haha, can use it for more than just running also which is handy.

I took up running about 7 years joined a local club and running with others you pick up new ideas and tips
A lot of good club runners would vary there workouts mixing up long slow runs/speedwork and hills etc

A long slow run at weekend builds a good base and helps your aerobic capacity but don't increase your mileage too much initially.

I'm the same as yourself, I can do 5k in 32/33 mins as my PB on a uphill park run. I buzz off that but then see on social media or on here for instance people doing 5ks in less than 20 mins.

Just do what's best for you :)

Just completed another walz - 3.11m (5.01km) - 25:21.........that's pretty quick for me on the road.

Big shout out for each of my completed miles;

Mile 1 - 8:44 (this includes a run into the bushes for a wee)
Mile 2 - 8:02
Mile 3 - 7:50 (going off my app this is my recorded fastest mile)

Decided to try you guys suggestions of mixing up the distance and trying to run faster / slower.

Felt good.

I would say don't compare yourself to others on here. Everyone is at a different level. We all have different profiles, and vastly different abilities.

The most important thing is that you enjoy it. If you enjoy it, you will want to run more. Don't torture yourself running. Don't beat yourself up if you miss a day. Just go out tomorrow instead and enjoy the outdoors.

Always come back here to post your progress. It's like a separate little community in here, with plenty of free advice always on offer, and lots of mutual appreciation and encouragement.
