Running thread

Anyone on here on Strava? I just use the free app on my phone, no fancy gps watch. Some people can get addicted to it but I find it a great motivator. You can chart your fitness over a whole run or segments.

Not touched a drop of beer since last Friday - ran 2km last night in 12 mins. Totally confident i will smash my 34.45 5km PB this Satuday.

New trainers purchased and everything.

I use it mate, i have a GPS watch which will connect to it, nothing fancy just a cheap one from Decathlon. It's perfect for measuring distance, times and helps you train as you can check your progress over days, weeks etc..

I am just getting back into the running again, only looking to do maybe 5k runs at the moment but may build up.

What is more important, distance or speed?

A whole 6 days......that's amazing,well done you!

I committed to not drinking 2 weeks ago when i came back from holiday, over the 10 days i have been back i have had just 4 dry days?

Absolutley no will power anymore, i did go 4 months dry about 2 years ago but then fell off the wagon in spectacular fashion.

I think you need a chat with your GP.

Just build both up slowly mate would be my advice, aim to run/walk 5k, see what time you do then try to speed that up over a couple of weeks, then i'd add a little extra distance on every few weeks. Also don't keep running the same route, vary it by adding hills or steps, helps with pace and distance training.

Both. If your looking for any tips just pm me. Ignore Inchy - hasn’t a fucking clue. Seen faster snails.

Ran 3km in 17.49 this morning before work. Not bad considering I’m overweight and haven’t done a timed run since the 10km in May :)

Miles in the legs.
Don't worry about speedwork until you get close to 30 miles a week

Some of these guys are just hoping to get Park runs under 30 minutes mate, never mind approach 30 miles a week!!
I know but someone specifically asked about whether to concentrate on speed or distance.
I'd be happy to get round 5k myself at the moment. I want to get back into my running. Used to run a lot to a decent standard a few years back then I got ibs (I'm convinced it was from the stress of the 2012 title race) and had to stop. I've tried to get going again with limited success but I've put on load so weight and now need to shift it and running will be my best bet.
