Running thread

I’ve always been a fair-weather runner, which isn’t the best mindset when you live in Salford! Anyway, decided to embrace the weather and get geared up for it, so there’s no excuses not to run this winter. Bought a pair of running tights for starters yday and was up running at 6am this morning, something I’ve not done since start of lockdown 1.

1 year ago today.... NYC Marathon completed, oh how things have changed.... let’s hope they get back to normal soon View attachment 4800
Brilliant mate.

Decided (as I've probably mentioned above) to do a marathon next year. New York would be a great one to do...whether that's feasible for a variety of reasons I don't know. Does Old York do one?

How did you find the course/weather/motivation? Did you base a holiday around it?

Once in a lifetime opportunity mate, friend managed to get 4 places through New Balance, still cost £275 each just for the race! Took my lad as an early Xmas present and spent a long weekend with this in the middle. Best time ever and an experience to never forget. Running in Central Park for the finish....

Weather was cold, course hillier than I’d expected but just enjoyed the day instead of worrying about a time and all that, took pics and videos on the way round.

Ahhh...ace.
What a thing to do. Love to do the same. We'll see.

Can't imagine New York with hills tbf, but I'm sure there are a few inclines.

That's how I want to do it...just enjoying the moment (the hours!!).

How come it cost so bloody much for the run?

You'll have to post a couple of pics of the race if you can.

Just really expensive to get into, Manchester is £70 so I’m sure you can see the more prestigious the more expensive. Me fucked at the finish no idea why it’s upside down lol 615BE48C-90F4-43AF-84A9-814DA098B31D.jpeg

Got out for the first time in a while today. Haven't been doing it as frequently as I was over summer and intended to do the shortest route I know, which is around 3k. I got part way down the road and found that my shorter route is infact partially flooded - went and did a 4k on one of my other loops instead.

Ha...subliminally recommending neck exercises!

Well done though mate....no easy feat.
Inspiring me to carry on with the plan to do one next year :)

Had a change today and decided to do a session on the Stairmaster at the gym instead. Not used it for over a year.

Rattled off 45 minutes with HR hovering at 155-160 with no problem whatsoever.

Last time I used it I was dying after 10 minutes.

Fit as fuck me nowadays ;)

still running with these shin splints and hernia/hip area twinge.

actually beat my PB on the 5k on friday night. think running down a hill helped me cut off 2 minutes.

Off all week now due to a cancelled trip to Amsterdam so another run tomorrow. was planning on doing 20k in one go tomorrow but unsure if its a wise move.

See how i wake up tomorrow.

One thing I have found great in all this? went back on facebook and joined that Run Bitch Run group.

Very helpful and some funny stories

I was going to Formby tomorrow to run on the beach but I am not sure that’s in the spirt of the lockdown rules so have decided not to go.

Does anyone know any decent routes or trails in greater manchester? I live in Worsley and run a lot in the woods there but fancy a change.

Does a foam roller dramatically aid recovery and ease DOMS?

I went for a 10km run on Thursday (first time in 3/4 months as I've been using low impact equipment at the gym) and felt like I'd been shot. Was in some pain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Today is the first day my quads and calfs have felt normal and I'm off out for another run.

Yes they certainly help mate, I used to use mine before and after every run, certainly got rid of all the knotts in my calves. Highly recommended.
