Running thread

Im in a keep fit pickle at the mo. Im gaining weight, not eating right and struggle in many forms if exercise.
I bust both my ankles pretty bad years back so struggle to run.
My back isnt great through my physical job so struggle to cycle.
I have a shoulder muscle issue that i cant get right which means i cant weight lift. Also makes swimming difficult.

I know im making excuses in a way , but the issues are the issues.

I know if i can do some exercise, the better eating follows, and visa versa , and ill lose the stone i need to lose

At 48 its only one way if i dont do something!

Walking might be a good way for you to get started, doesn't seem like a lot but can definitely help with losing weight.

Have you thought about hiking? Yep sounds boring as fuck a long walk!! But once you get into it there's quite a few decent spots to go that aren't far from Manchester, places I did not know existed up until a few years ago
I love hiking. The old ankles can be an issue. And time ( i know, excuses again). With kids time isnt your own

But walking is 100% a start i intend to do

Having kids is even better!! We've got twins, and have had them out hiking all over the place, the difference between them when they been out and when they just do boring local stuff is night and day.

Is a great little site, I'm always finding loads of stuff to get the kids to on there

I would definitely be in a box if I got that high!! I know exactly what you mean with the ego and the slow runs, I run early mornings when there's no one about and even then I struggle to go slow as my ego keeps chipping away speeding me up.
It's going to be a battle with the ego at the start of the manchester half tomorrow, I know I'm not currently fit enough to run a decent time but when the race starts there's no way I'm going to want to be passed every two seconds
The biggest boost to your ego will be if your last mile is your fastest and you pass people every two second to the finish line. Everything comes to he who waits.

We get out loads with our kids … but hiking isnt for them. 7 and 10. We just do other things.

Ive got 2 dogs. They are getting walked plenty as of next week

Parkrun done, 22:20, not bad off of my first 5 weeks of consistent training in about 7 years. It wasn't a flat course either. Think I averaged 197 bpm all the way round, so I think some longer slower runs are needed in order to get that heart rate down.

Needed to know where I was at so I could tackle my next 5 weeks of training. Still aiming for my ambitious target of a Sub-20 5k by the end of the year.

Not bad ?!
Cracking time , well done - I’m 6 seconds away from getting in the 22’s

1.33.07 for me in the half, have to be happy with that, went out for 1.45/50 felt good so cracked on, leg held together with sticky tape and it worked enough to get the job done. Good to see Sean down there, big congrats on his PB
That's excellent, well done

Decent time that.

Meanwhile I'm in transition from cycling to running now to be ready for winter. Not sure it's any good though. I enjoyed a nice 5 mile trail run yesterday but sore legs today. I was looking forward to the analysis on strava when I finished....but I forgot to press start !.

On the bike tomorrow.

First HM 2.27.47 was aiming for 2.30. completed it mate
Good.

Maybe have a week off and then gradually pick up the training routine again.

You'll have the fitness now and could aim for one longer run at weekends of about an hour. Then you can easily increase the training again if you plan another HM.

Haha no data to rummage through after!! You don't needs me to tell you to ease back into it, best time of year for running now.
As for my time it's 10 minutes slower than my PB that I set around April/May time, but I'm still delighted with it as I've been injured for a few months now and was starting to doubt I could get anywhere near

Looking at maybe a 10k in few weeks but wanted to wait to see how I felt after today
