A few rambling thoughts...

70 miles in a week! Wow. The most I ever did was 60 at the peak of marathon training about a decade ago.

PBs ?!!?. They are a distant memory. Last one was about a decade ago! At what age do you think PBs become impossible?

My plans. I have entered a 10k in May. It's my second race in the last decade! After that I will transition from running to cycling again as it will be too hot for me.

How about Loch Ness marathon in October? It's been recommended to me in the past. If there is one last marathon in me then that will be it.
Apparently speed and general running ability start to decline around 50 for typical amateur runners.

Good luck in your 10K! It's always nice to have something to look forward to.

Yes, I've considered the Loch Ness Marathon. Will give it some thought...

Thanks!

PBs are possible, I think. I ran a Parkrun PB of 24:04 five months ago at Stretford. It knocked 30 seconds off my previous PB, which was about three years ago. I'm 61, and I thought PBs were consigned to the past too.

Since then though, I've had a three month injury lay off, so I'm not close to that level at the moment.

I'll qualify this by adding I used to run when in my mid twenties, and I ran much faster back then. This was when Garmin used to be a compass and map though, and although I have no records, I have a vague memory of 17 minutes for a distance since measured at roughly 5km.

I suppose it depends how good the PBs were and at what age they were done. Obvious I suppose! Most of mine, certainly at the shorter distances were about 20 years ago now when I was mid to late 30s. Eg 5k time for comparison was about 19 minutes. I'll get no where near that again, probably barely under 24 minutes these days :-(

Peel Parkrun completed in 28:48 before the match yesterday, which was another course PB.
It was a "pacer event' meaning volunteers were running with target minutes on their backs. I found it really useful as I was able to follow the young lady with "29" on her back before turning on the afterburners for the finish.

Isabel Trail Parkrun in Stafford completed this morning in 29:43. My lungs still don't seem to be able to cope too well with cold dry air following 2 bouts of pneumonia involving hospitalisation 12 years ago. However, had to walk a bit on the return (known in the trade as "Jeffing" I believe?) before my usual sprint finish.

Took more than a minute off my parkrun, 23:51 at Oak Hill (East Barnet in North London). Pleased with that.

Today, intention was to continue marathon training with 30k. Unfortunately, weird pain spasms in my left hip after 18k saw me call the run to a halt. After a bit of research I'm none the wiser as to what I may have done. It feels like bruising but no reason to be bruised, don't think it's a stress fracture as I can support my weight. Who knows, a few days rest will hopefully do the trick..

Take it easy fella. Let us know how you get on in a few days. Might be worth a visit to a physio if it's still there.

Not ran for 2 weeks. Due to losing mojo, had 3 party weekends last 3 weeks. Stag do in Scotland, my sister's 60th in Belfast/Dublin then an 18th birthday party and weekend in Gloucester. Back at it today with 5k and lunchtime. February was my highest milage month with 49 miles (I didn't run for the last week of it) Just under 2 weeks to my HM, not too bothered about time due to the above just happy to finish

Just done my midweek training run from Castlefield Basin to Throstles Nest Footbridge and back along the Bridgewater Canal.
Can't be believe Julia Roberts went to see the Scum at the Swamp but couldn't be arsed coming out to cheer me on. Lazy cow!
