Cheers mate,Good luck to everyone doing the Manchester and London Marathons today.
Remember the #1 golden rule of marathon running: control your pace from the start (in other words, don't go off too fast!).
As it's been warm for the Manchester and London Marathons today, I've made a little vid about hydration for runners.
Manchester marathon yesterday, finished in 3.27 which I'm happy enough with, yesterday was not a day for PB chasing, knew that after about 5km, happy to get round in one piece especially after last week's 50 mile ultra!!
Thanks mate, did the Manchester to Liverpool ultra, 50 miler, finished in 7.51 and 49th place, 5th in age category, pretty pleased with that for my first go at the big boy milesGreat effort Gaz, which Ultra did you do?

Had a mare with my shoe choice, did the first 32mile in puma deviate nitro elite 3 which was all gravy, got the Mrs to meet me at mile 32 with a pair of metaspeeds that I hadn't used for ages, fucked if I know why I thought that would be a good idea, it wasn't, ran about 200m and realised my error, was in 20th position at that stage, last 18 miles were a lot tougher than they could have been. That is a brilliant time. Congratulations. What trainers did you go for?
It’s hard to know with trail runs, on rock hard, dried out soil, what to wear.
I had firm soil packed ground, wooded areas, grass and my feet felt a bit beaten up afterwards. Went with the Nike trail Pegasus which is a hybrid shoes but still unsure if that was the right choice.
I wear one on almost every long run and similarly soak it in water before heading out the door when it's hot. I also use the salt chews ( think were recommended on here). I don't like the gels and find the chews make me sip more water when I might not haveHope everyone ran well yesterday.
Ran the Garmin Trail Half yesterday and scraped a top ten finish. Ridiculously hot out there and so it was a proper challenging.
After years of running, and struggling, I found a really good aid to help with the heat. Wore a buff around my neck for the first time (outside winter) and was soaking it with cold water at every aid station and in exposed areas placing it over my forehead. Really helped.
Great advice above by @Stuuuuuu and @gaz76. I’m a proper sweater during exercise and lose a huge amount of water and salts so I always have a drink with electrolytes and also, when racing, take salt tablets with me or electrolyte gels.
Carry them in a flip belt (around my waist, which you don’t really notice when running.
Great effort mateProper tough do yesterday... I did not make my goal of 3:59:59. Wasn't even close. I was well ahead of pace at Altrincham but entered the pain cave as I ran past the half way mark.
Went out for drinks with my running club mates after, and out of roughly 40 of us, only 2 actually hit their target times. I would honestly say it was the toughest conditions I've ever raced in.
