Running thread

Take it easy, mate!
I've had a few calf cramps swimming recently, and a few calf twinges while running.
I understand it can be caused by low magnesium levels, so I've upped my banana consumption!
Cheers Staffs, I actually had a banana before I set off. I’m hoping it will be ok for Saturdays park run.

I'm actually quite enjoying being in a running club. It's not at my usual time of day for running, plus I'm not the most chatty person, but I'm finding it to be quite good fun. I think it's testament to the general running community which tends to be very friendly, welcoming and supportive.

I found running club really helped me when I was there good motivation and you knew the days/time you went and ran. People would push you to keep going and get quicker, plus good social side to it

Signed up for the Liverpool half in March and Manchester half in May - Either that or we're in the European Cup final and i'll be in Budapest! Those 2 should keep be going through winter.

I'm really enjoying it at the moment just done my fastest 10k of 56:41. Last best was at MediaCity 10k 2018 and was 56:58

201 days without any alcohol today!

Having some floating bone removed from my ankle in a week, going to be at least 6 weeks recovery, I am going to go stir crazy not being able to run!

I’m off work this week so thought I’d have a go at Marple park run on my own this morning. Managed to run 28:48, my best time yet, but tweaked my right calf near the end, and am now limping around the house.
Calves are buggers! Have a look online for stretches and exercises to strengthen them. Last time I had a calf strain it would appear ok so I would try running again only for it to "go" again after a mile or so. So went to a physio and he gave me some different stretches and exercises and that seems to have done the trick

Anyone see the Boston Q's come out, so they lowered all the GFA times by 5 mins and you still need to be 4:54 under. So that's sub 2:50 for me pretty much.

The majors are just massively oversubscribed at the moment and with the help of nutrition, super shoes and god knows what else, people are flying around a marathon now.

Not too bothered at the moment as I said I wont enter a major until I get a qualifying time and I'm not focusing on it atm but who knows what time that will be when I decide to try for it.

Berlin and Sydney ballots have both opened this week mate, although I've never once gotten into a major through a ballot!!
Boston is probably the easiest to get into with a gfa, Berlin is sub 2.45 for everyone up to v60, Tokyo even less, London's pretty reasonable but that's because they are the only one who don't do international gfa, which makes London the hardest to get for overseas runners(shit that if you ask me)
I've done 5 London's, Boston and Chicago all with a gfa, hoping to get into Sydney with a gfa, I go up an age group the day after the race and have a gfa by 5 mins for the new age group,

Morden parkrun south London this morning. Warm with nice breeze and official time of 34.39. Just back from week's holiday ok Rhodes at 7 last night so happy enough with that. Query though my Garmin says I did 3.14 miles in 34.27 and my Strava says I did 34.26. Bit disappointed my official time higher as I stopped my watch after passing finish line and it's always less than the apps

Have you done any runs in the dark yet? I've noticed a big change in the weather so I've got out my winter running kit.

Thought I'd do a vid with some tips on winter running, while I was at it. I'm interested to hear your thoughts and what you do at this time of year.

Ventured down south for the Ealing Half mara on Sunday ,Would recommend, well organised and great support around the course . Route was a bit windy with some small hills. Did nt go full out as have Manchester half in 2 weeks time so was happy with 1hr 39. Would certainly do it again

Looking for advice from you proper runners on here……

71 and half year old, 50 years since running, started C25K 14 weeks ago, now running 3 @ 5K three to four times a week sub 35 minutes moderately comfortable.
Should I increase my distance and keep to my pace or just carry on with 5K without worrying about time?

It all depends on your motives for running.

Personally I do it to keep myself reasonably fit, protect my heart, lungs and joints, to lose a bit of weight, and most importantly, because I enjoy it.

I only run 5k twice a week, as for me, running is just a side hustle for my main form of exercise which is swimming.

I'm not too bothered about times or distances, but I don't really run to create statistics.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to develop and what your reasons are for running.

Many thanks for your reply, my main objective is to keep fit, lower my blood pressure and general well being, can’t definitively say I enjoy it but do get a sense of achievement on completing a run, no
endorphin rush unfortunately.

I find swimming hard work and never enjoyed it.

Not looking for park runs or the like I just need motivation.
