Running thread

Well done. How much running do you do on average per week to get a time around 2hrs ?

I’ve booked the Manchester half in May and my target is to get under 2hrs.

Difficult to answer in terms of what you will need. What is your current fitness level? age? etc etc

I started properly training in March, ran 700km, so im averaging about 20km a week over that period. More recently though, getting up to 50km a week and averaging around 30km. I'm 6'4" and 43 years old, managed to shift 2 stone since March which has made a massive difference.

I've been doing a bit of running over the past few months keeping myself ticking over but no real distance.

On Sunday i did a sponsored 37k walk and though i got round it fine in about 7 hours, things hurt that just aren't mean to hurt. I honestly have no idea how some of you lot do full marathons and even further, it really has given me extra insight and admiration for anyone who does them.
 
It happens to me quite a bit. The thing I remind myself is that I've never regretted going out for a run afterwards.
There's a few things that help some people like putting your kit out the night before, or finding a running buddy or joining a running club.
My motivation is just to stick any planned runs into my phone calendar, and I haven't missed a scheduled one yet.

Similar with me really, lost my mojo to go running.

health doesnt help, really struggling to do a 5/6k race without my leg pain hurting instantly or im suffering for days after. I know its linked to my body issues like Arthiritis but its frustrating.

Gone from running twice a week with a group, and 2/3 solo runs to i think 4 runs in the last 7/8 weeks!

I have been going to the gym more in the mean time, mainly boxing etc which is keeping my fitness up but really miss running outside

I’m mid 50’s and in Feb set about getting in shape. 10 years ago I could run under 2hrs for a half marathon. In Feb I wasn’t running at all.

This year I’ve gradually improved timewise but more on 5k parkrun. I’ve set myself a goal in a half marathon that’s in a realistic timeframe.

Being aware of your distance in training helps gauge where I should be heading in the coming months.

Alarm went off at 6am this morning, and boy did i not want to get up!

During the summer id have jumped out of bed in excitement, but I'm certainly seeing that it's more difficult now the nights are drawing in, its dark in the mornings, and it's getting much cooler!

Still enjoying getting out though, and just getting out and running even when it feels like an effort, just seems to further toughen me up mentally

Just get out and do what you can, keep the routine even if its shorter distances; remember, getting out the front door is the hardest part
 
1000016160.pngcape town marathon cancelled due to high winds 4 hours before it was going to start, as if that wasn't a big enough kick in the balls for the 24k who will have trained for months for it, they've just announced no refunds and no carried over places either
 
I use shokz headphones, have used them for a good few years, doubt I could run with a normal pair of headphones now, definitely the best option if you want music/podcasts etc with your runs
Is the sound quality just like in ear buds? It’s weird isn’t it that you can get the sound through your skull! Are they comfortable if worn for a long time. Cheers

Yep it's a weird sensation when you first try them and you are hearing stuff not through your ears!
Sound quality wise, they never going to be as good as direct into the ears but after a few goes it just becomes the norm.
Comfort wise, I don't even notice they are there so definitely a tick for that box.
 
Sarah Perry has just broken the women’s Backyard Ultra WR - 95 laps (nearly 400 miles)!!!! Previous best and UK record was only fifty something laps. Incredible achievement. The race started on Saturday and there are still 9 runners going…



Worth dipping in just before each hour is up to see the ‘action’ and current remaining runners
 
Jeffed 2.5 lunchtime miles today. First time out in 4 weeks. Did a sponsored walk of over 20 miles for Mind. Had aunt passed away in Northern Ireland so went home for funeral and a cousin (different side of family) passed away day after aunt. Been told we need to make arrangements for mother in law's funeral by her care home (she hasn't eaten for few weeks and got Parkinson's plus dementia) so started to organise that. Been a shocking few weeks. So glad to get out for 25 mins today and clear my head. I've done 22 parkruns and there's a newish one few minutes from where I stay with my sister in Coleraine. I'm aiming to run that as my 25th so hopefully can do 2 in the next 3 weeks before I go home again mid November. Giving me something to focus on as emotionally, physically and mentally exhausted.
 
After going out running regularly for over 3 months have lost motivation……..guess I have to just get my kit on and force myself to get out there, not ideal state of mind before a run

Do you change your routes mate? I think sometimes when you run for runs sake it’s easy to slip into that mindset.

I try and make a bit of an experience of it now, drive to somewhere beautiful, run somewhere where I have not visited. Keeps my love for running strong as just running around the same route can be demotivating for some.

It's interesting you should say that, as i was going to ask something similar in here the other week

Would be keen to hear about nice scenic routes, ideally paved areas rather than trail

Happy to drive a bit, live in Hazel Grove so perhaps somewhere within 30 mins or so

Weird that I've not got up to lyme park yet, can drive up towards it in about 10 mins, and would be a mile run to get into the park itself!
