Russian invasion of Ukraine

Wise words from someone who suffered the worst of a previous Russian dictatorship.

Hope petrusha is okay.

Wise words indeed, but he also also praised putin for rediscovering what it is to be russian.

He also advocated a new Slavic state of russia, Ukraine, belarus and parts of Kazakhstan that he thought were Russified.

The last fortnight has shown how important some things we take for granted are.

A free press that has the government on the run a lot of the time.

Living in a liberal democracy.

Our relationship with the rest of Europe and how important they are as allies (of course the US too).

NATO.

I never thought about them day to day as I’m not that bothered about politics but I’m bloody grateful for them all now.
That's the point. In a liberal democracy you just take things for granted, it's so normal. When trouble looms we realize how lucky we are.

The BBC news departments have been strong armed into giving the government an easy ride. It’s a national shame how little scrutiny they put the government under.
The left think they’re biased in favour of the government, the right think in favour of the opposition.

those of us who are fair weather it kind of shows them to be impartial.

Weird really, I posted an opinion piece from a Marxist perspective.

I did not endorse the article, i posted it so that other posters could read that different perspectives from the prevailing BM perspective were available. The article was then moderated.

Has BM become like Putin's Russia were censorship is rife and only the official party line is tolerated. I wonder if many of the people who aimed abuse at me see the irony in that.

Anyway you can not beat a good BM pile on, but I am a big boy, I can take abuse, but remember I can also give it out, especially to those who think that by myself posting an article makes me some sort of idiot. Thanks to those who gave me abuse, you proved my point quite beautifully. You are the victims of propaganda in exactly the same way that the Russian people are victims of Putin's propaganda.
My comment wasn't aimed at anything you posted, it was at those that decided to have a 4 page abusive argument which has been removed.

Mariupol.

They’ve been shelling it and a ceasefire was negotiated so civilians could leave through a very narrow route past Russian troops.

The civilians set off as agreed and the shelling started.

I get so fucking angry reading this shit.
Sorry, just after I posted, saw it on the news. Im with you, it's disgusting.

So did I.

A full NATO force in Ukraine now, with nukes off the table on all sides, and the Russians are all dead or in prison extremely quickly.
Oh yeah I agree. Taking the shameful acts and the victims out of it for just a second, militarily this has been a huge embarrassment for Russia.
