Russian invasion of Ukraine

This is another way of saying 'if you don't give Putin something so that he can say to his people, 'I have a Victory' he will get even worse.'
What a disgraceful load of shit. Even worse than raping and murdering innocent women indiscriminate shelling of populated areas until it is a wasteland ? Killing children ?
What the sad sack of shit really means is 'when this shit is over can I have cheap gas please.
isn't it more like, if you humiliate him he may use a nuke to save face

Ukraine have already tried to give putin the out by not escalating when they invaded Crimea. Then they came for Donbas and Luhansk which got stalled and now they came for the lot trying to overwhelm them with force. Of course initially they werent in a position to fight back but still.

There is no reasoning to be had when they only understand power. They have to be defeated entirely and pushed out of Ukraine, no deal to save face or they will simply try again like they did before.

Russia will be a shell of itself once this war ends, it will be generations before russia even gets close to where it was pre-war and with diversification of energy sources it might never get back to where it was. They will likely not recover their military enough to invade anyone after this is over which I believe is the goal.

Macron is like Chamberlain. Although it does need someone to try for diplomacy
I think Chainberlain gets an unfair press. He needed to stall for time. I don’t think for a minute he felt he’d secured peace in our time. He knew exactly what Hitler was, but wasn’t holding any cards.

saw a film recently (Munich The Edge of War - Netflix) which portrays Nev completely differently to the common perception, pretty much shows it as you describe. Made me think

There was something in Blair’s autobiography about a diary entry of Chamberlain from around the time of Munich he read at Chequers one weekend, which made it clear that he didn’t remotely trust Hitler but had done what he thought was right in the circumstances. He certainly wasn’t the right PM for a war, but I think the way he gets pilloried over Munich is grossly unfair. He probably enabled us to hold out for long enough for the Americans to enter the war. If Germany had attacked us in 1938 we’d have been fucked.

The Czechs and Slovaks don’t like this post much.
