I'm not comparing Putin to a Nazi, but... we put the Nazi's on trial, and it was seen the world over. It was an important stepping stone in building a better world. The first thing they did, the secret to their power and success, was to misuse and pervert the law, ultimately to make the idea that there was any hope of impartial truth or justice not backed up by force, threat, violence or abuse against the individual. We had to make that right before the world could get better. And it did. Not perfect. But the most peaceful, proseporous period in history in so many ways, it extended ordinary people so many rights and so much help we rely on today.
On the other hand, we fucked up Hussain's execution horribly... tortured and abused the Al Qaida suspects. And what happens? No one takes the law or anything like that seriously. It's just there to be used. Everyone gets cynical.
And ultimately, our world gets less happy, growth stops, Putin strikes. Inflation, blah blah blah.
So... yeah. I don't think killing him is a worthy response. People need to understand what it is all about. How they rigged elections, changed the constitution. That it was all about changing the law, or breaking it, because they were weak, and by acting the way they did, Putin only managed to put himself in an ever more precarious position, same with the oligarchs, they needed more and more financial muscle and control over the law to stay safe, until they've gone from taking all the money for the resources, ensuring people's poverty, removing their meaningful say in their democracy, to murdering individuals, to putting entire populations in jeapordy, to threatening nuclear weapons and the entire world.
That's what needs taking care of. That way we can protect what makes us safe, and relearn to value ourselves, our heritage, and our societies.
