This link is fresh from earlier this afternoon on that critical EU funding that Hungary are desperately still waiting for -

I suspect that an additional caveat for the eventual release of these funds to them will be that they sign off on Finland/Sweden and maybe stop acting like a bunch of shithouses at every opportunity to block EU sanctions on russia.

Posted a link last Friday that said Hungary has intimated that it will ratify their NATO applications early next year, probably February. While the EU cannot put caveats pertaining to NATO in its documents, you’re right to say that it will certainly want less recalcitrance from Budapest.

Posted a link last Friday that said Hungary has intimated that it will ratify their NATO applications early next year, probably February. While the EU cannot put caveats pertaining to NATO in its documents, you’re right to say that it will certainly want expect less recalcitrance from Budapest.

Had read that link you dropped, but it’s not the first time they’ve promised to ratify the application and missed the promised date. Can’t see them meeting half of the EU milestones for their cash handout anyhow.

He was pictured only last week at their Greece friendly match with a scarf on which had the pre world war 1 Greater Hungary map drawn on it (which incorporates part of Ukraine) . He has been increasingly referencing the G.H in the last 10 years to his domestic audience to get their nationalist juices flowing. It’s a copy and paste ideology and strategy from his poster boy in the kremlin.

There’s definitely a degree of brinkmanship involved. The noises coming out of Budapest were positive last week, and I still think it will happen, but the EU should keep a tight hold of the purse strings. Even Turkey today appears to be softening its position.

Don’t like orban has he is basically ruling by decree and will not give up the big seat. Don’t understand why the ethnic Hungarians are not allowed to study there own language in Ukraine though .

That’s interesting on that point on not allowing them to study their own langauge, hopefully they may reverse that policy once this is all over. I suspect Ukraine will be much more tolerant of other races and ethnicities after what they have had to go through - suspect russia will take a couple of generations to receive forgiveness
