Russian invasion of Ukraine

It's incredible isn't it, that they are using 60yr old armoured vehicles.

They have had that many tanks taken out they have to get them out of storage. This is before any Abrams, Bradley, Leopard or Challenger has rolled into the battlefield, the Russians are in for some serious pain when these pieces of equipment engage because they will be able to fire from further distances.

from google , Douglas Abbott Macgregor is a retired U.S. Army colonel and government official, and an author, consultant, and television commentator.

this guy isn't a random , hes an ex colonel of the united states of america ,and if anything you would think he would be siding with ukraine ,that's why i was a bit worried with what he was saying
Having served myself, I've met a fair few nut-job Colonels so wouldn't read too much into his rank. If he was any good, he would have ended up at least 1-star rank and probably higher. Reached his ceiling and then left, would be my guess.

Won't the newer western tanks be just as vulnerable to the Russian shoulder fired rockets and drones as their older soviet T72s etc ?

They will be vulnerable to some degree, The Abrams and Challenger has some specialist armour on it to combat that, whether Ukraine gets it on their Abrams remains to be seen as it’s top secret and I would imagine the Yanks don’t want that going into Russian hands so it can be copied.

Tank on tank though, the firing range of NATO main battle tanks is a lot further than what any T-72 can do which means they can engage a lot further away.

Any idea what the accuracy is of a NATO tank at max range?

I'm well out of date with my tank details but years ago the abily of the Challemger to maintain target details despite terrain or tank movement was championed.
If so they can be in and out fast together with firing on the go presenting a complex target for the foe.
