I imagine the Ruskies have air superiority in the Black Sea and could potentially engage from there. They certainly like buzzing the NATO aircraft over the Black Sea.
The air defence systems on Crimea might put the Ukraine jets in their range as well depending how close they launch from. Ukraine don’t have many planes and probably wouldn’t want to risk them in range of air defences.

So,it would depend on the drop zone,again,im no expert,so happy to be corrected.
I do know the Russian strategic bombers,have now started to drop missiles well before the drop zone.
This is due to them being terrified of Patriot.
And if its on their mind,surely its on the mind of other Russian pilots?
Would that not give Ukraine the upper hand in the air?
