Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

Thing is if you watched the England team for years we’d lump the ball forward at goal kicks etc and give it to the opposition and be defending again. Everton experienced it against us last year. Keeping the ball by building from the back is the way forward.

Sadly the money in the Premier League
has bred a group of managers who can help a team survive each season. They rely on desperate defending, grim football but limited understanding of how to break teams down outside dead balls.

Eddie Howe is an example of a manager who tries to play football and I applaud him. Until England develops managers who have the the courage to play more from the back we’ll never move forward as a national team.

He signed Theo Walcott at Everton didn't he?

He's hardly a hoof ball merchant.

Theo Walcott is the epitome of a kick n rush footballer.

Let's be honest here. Alladyce is a dinosaur. He has his niche, but it's very one trick pony. He's a poor man's Mourinho.

Football should be played the right way, kick n rush is something that's been rampant throughout youth football in this country.
We still live in a country where 90 out of the 92 league sides would have dismissed the likes of Messi & David Silva for being too small.

To be honest, I can see where he's coming from re. his "stupid" remark at Emery's tactics against our high press game. Arsenal haven't got the required accomplished footballers in their defence to play such a game. The sideshow doppelganger looks like, in time, he could be a very good footballer. But he isn't there yet, and should have cost his side another goal when he let Aguero in. However, for Allardyce in particular to criticise another manager's tactics is a bit rich; the bloke belongs in the 1980s, the era of Howard Wilkinson and that fella who was high up in the FA around that era ( can't remember his name, he was an advocate of the long ball game).

Allardici lost a home match by the same scoreline against us last year with 18% possession hacking it clear every chance they got.

As for Emery and Arsenal? Start as you mean to go on, won't work against us or the dippers this early but they'll be better for it in the long run and better for it against the other 17 sides.

Charles hughes .

I'll tell you where they finished, mid table with the Everton fans moaning about the crap football they were forced to watch and with Fat Sam getting the bullet

But what about the exciting Barcelona football they were watching under attacking manager Koeman. It was utter sh*t. Allardyce got the same bunch from relegation to top 8. Didn’t have the luxury that Silva has now of bringing in 50 mill players that really make the difference for entertainment value.
English fans all jump on the same bandwagon - it’s what toffee fans did, despite him playing much better football than his predecessor and getting the results.

There's a lot of sniffiness on here.

We are playing football from the gods. This is not the norm. We have the best coach in the world, some of the best training facilities and one of the world's biggest budgets. Our football is unique.

Allardyce has consistently overachieved in every job he has taken. Whether that is getting mid table teams into Europe, relegation threatened teams safe, or teams promoted - he has done it every time. Usually on a shoestring budget.

I watched his Bolton side on a number of occasions (my mate is a fan), and their football at home was no worse on the eye than the majority of English teams. And it was usually effective.

Cast your minds back too - most of us would gladly have taken him at City 04-07 period.

There are several shades in between passing it out from the back or hoofing it up the pitch, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

Teams that aren't capable of playing it out from the back are going to be sussed out fairly quickly and other teams will just pick them off.

It won't be much consolation to Emery if he's looking for another job by the time Arsenal adjust their approach.
