Sam Allardyce: Epitome of why English football has lagged behind

You'd be wrong then, they finished 8th.

Of the seven teams that finished above them, they could have only have been realistically expected to finish higher than Burnley, who had an exceptional season.

So a team of Everton's standing coached by the great Allardici, as he once christened himself, couldn't manage to overhaul the mighty Burnley. Also the point about the Everton fans complaining and him getting the bullet still stand. As the OP stated, he is a dinosaur in the modern game and his glory years at Bolton are well behind him. He should do us all a favour and take himself off to his tasteful villa near Benidorm, he could watch the match on a Sunday in one of the many delightful English pubs with his pint of John Smiths and a Sunday Roast.

Here speaks the dinosaur of English football management.
Playing out from the back does take some time to get right as Pep found out during his first season. Now that the players are comfortable playing out & can take 3 Or 4 opposition players out of play.

Thirteen other teams couldn't overhaul Burnley.

Were they all managed by 'dinosaurs' as well?

Everton fans have delusions of grandeur.

Aye, i remember the patience he showed with Joe Hart.

Worked with him for hours on the training ground to improve his distribution.

To be fair he's taken a team that were relegation threatened in supposedly the best league in the world to one place short of a European place. This without a pre season or a chance to bring his own group of players in. If you think of all the managers in world football there's probably millions. He's managed to do it at the highest level for a considerable amount of years with i would say moderate success. He may not be the best but you cant hide from the fact that he is / has been an elite level manager
