Saurez [FA release investigation findings]

Re: Suarez (merged)

Liverpool sticking with 'Uruguayan racism is really friendly'
21-12-11

LIVERPOOL'S defence of banned striker Luis Suarez will continue to be based on a strict interpretation of Uruguayan semantics.

Suarez has been banned for eight matches after what Liverpool described as a 'cultural snafu' between their striker and Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

A spokesman said: "If he was Argentinean and he came out with that sort of unpleasantness we'd have kicked his buttocks all the way back to Buenos Aires.

"But Luis is Uruguayan and therefore not capable of what you think of as racism. In Uruguayan, the term 'negro' means 'lovely friend'. Unfortunately not everyone speaks fluent Uruguayan.

"So, in fact, Luis was actually telling Patrice that because of all the shoving they were now 'lovely friends forever' and hoped that, at the end of the season, they could perhaps go on a fishing holiday together .

"And then he said it another nine times."

The spokesman added: "And also, we are Liverpool. We are a lovely, cheeky, cuddly left-wing football club that takes everyone at face value and then makes a wonderful, pithy joke about our shared humanity."

An FA spokesman said: "We're assuming Suarez's appeal will involve the Uruguayan ambassador and a group of indigenous tribes people playing unusual wind instruments. So that's something to look forward to.

"In the meantime, it would be a lot easier if everyone just stuck to calling Patrice Evra an arsehole."

Re: Suarez (merged)

So by your recogning you would be much more likely to trust someone who had done the crime but said they wouldnt do it again than someone who never has done it in the first place.

Ok say your house was broken into as a child while you were in bed and it bothered you, maybe that decides you will never thieve and you wouldnt contemplate but by your recogning that would make you a bang to rights criminal.

And seriously your comparing stealing food to feed your starving family to making racist comments. My best friend from being 5 is black and i have seen him suffer racism from idiots and supposedly intelligent people alike by this token i see racists as scum and abhor racist behaviour but by your recogning this condemnation of all things racist would therefore make me a racist.

Your trying to bring forth an intellectual argument and saying we must understand what racism is before we can condemn it as it seems you dont understand what it is yourself,if suarez has made disparaging remarks based on a persons race then he deserves what he gets just like everyone else.

Just as you can´t compare breaking into houses with nicking something from a shop during your impressionable and impetuous youth. Some latent/dormant racism may be the consequences of conditioning from a bygone age. We are all guilty of every action we take but the circumstances in which we take those actions also has a bearing on the result.
As for Suarez , having spoken to many of my Spanish friends I am now firmly of the opinion that he is undeniably guilty of the said charge

have political correctness really taken so much over in the world, that calling somebody something nasty is worse than actually physically hurting them?

Political correctness and racism are two different things pal.

what if he had called him a cocksucking bastard then? thats just as offensive to gay people?

I'm struggling here Thomas to understand your argument...

A broken bone will mend, but the wrong words said to a person can have a lifelong affect.

Re: Suarez (merged)

The FAs charge were that he referred to a player by race or ethnicity. It don't matter if it was hurtful or not. How hard is it to understand that very seldom are players referred to by color in some joking manner (although I doubt it was). Why does he even need to refer to Evra as negritos. Wouldn't it just be easier to call him a rag **** and move on.

Re: Suarez (merged)

It's kind of a massive, thread and I'm sure its been asked before, but can/will Suarez play against us?

Re: Suarez (merged)

this ban is a fecking disgrace for two reasons:-

1. It was on Evra's word alone (I shall ignore the fact he is a Rag)

2. Even if Suarez used the N word, to my mind there is no difference between the use of that as a "slagging off" word as compared to a whole multitude that exist in the Male Workplace which are used equally to derogatory effect - calling someone fat, thin, short, tall, bald whatever - its all the same - you are making a derogatory comment about someones physical appearance - why does the colour of someones skin STILL have special status in this respect in 2011? Its fecking ridiculous and society needs to get hold of itself and say - its either all or nothing? not some half baked situation rooted in history - don't get me wrong blacks and asians were treated disgracefully in the past, but that was then and this is now, the 21st Century

Serious question, would there be any shouts of racism if a white person was called a "white ****"?

Thats a silly question, not a serious one.

No its completely serious, I doubt anyone would even raise an eyebrow if someone was called a "White ****", or "Chinese ****".
