Scandalous Attendance at Villa Park

I think this thread has taken up a life of its own, and turned into criticising / defending Villa's home support.

That was never my intention. What i was trying to complain about, was, presumably, many City fans who wanted to go (2 of my seasoncard holding friends definitely included ) could not get tickets for the match because it, (our allocation), was sold out.

With respect to Villa supporters, that must be the most under-subscribed "sellout" ever. I appreciate its their ground, presumably their fixture, but i just think its plain wrong, that people who want to attend, are prevented from doing so, for no logical / fair reason, especially, given the understandable apathy of the home fans, and its not as if their is particular hostility amongst the 2 sets of fans.

It was US who had sold out OUR allocation, nothing to do with the Villa supporters or their club!!! We took x number of tickets as the away allocation and sold them out.

Whilst I agree we may aswell have given you more tickets, we didn't have to. It was obvious early in the week there was very little interest in the game from our side, our forums were full of fans saying they weren't going even though the tickets were cheap and my family members and mates who usually go, none of them went. We were always going to lose anyway whether you had 6000 there or 9000 so we may aswell have let you have the tickets.

We're bottom of the league, won twice all season and going down with a whimper. Did you expect the ground to be full and rocking? The owner has given up as shown by lack of signings this month and the players at best are terrible, at worst don't care. It's no wonder the fans have also given up. Apathy rules at our club these days, we've all accepted our fate this season already. Yesterday was always going to be a hammering and the stay away fans knew that and saved themselves the pain.

I know of one of your supporters who has a season ticket, lives in London and goes to all your home matches and quite a few away ones as well. She is from Brum and her family live there so she does have a place to stay etc., plus her family are also ST holders. She was there yesterday and will be there next season wherever you are. So you do have some loyal supporters (as well as yourself). Do not despair. :-)

I do have to take issue with you on one thing though, not all your players are terrible and not all of them don't care!! Yes, as a City supporter and a Micah Richards fan I am bound to say this but not obliged to if you get my drift; that lad will play to the end of every match, he will give you 100% (I don't believe in that 110% thing) every single game and he did yesterday. To be fair there were also others on your team who did. I know it is easy for me to say when our team are playing so well, but yours didn't give up yesterday, yes they were outplayed but they didn't give up. You are down personally now but please don't give up, you will rise again never fear, you are not Leeds nor Bolton Wanderers, keep the faith Holte Ender, keep the faith. We did through our bad times you just have to hold on to that belief in your club.

Plus, (& I know this probably means nothing to you but I have to say it) you have some of the best Stewards in the League, they were very, very helpful to me yesterday. Over and above what they needed to be and I have sent your club an email thanking them.

Keep the faith. Good luck for the future to you and your club.

I'll try one last time,

i am NOT criticising Villa supporters, but i AM complaining.

Don't know if it's our fault, Villa's, the local Police or whoever, but something IS WRONG when people cannot buy tickets for a public event (for whatever reason) when the ground is barely half full

Cheers fella.

Agree with you on Richards. Being honest he has been poor this season like the rest of them and he's never a centre half, but he does give his all and does seem to care as he showed at Wycombe when he spoke to the fans and calmed them down.

With the greatest respect, how can it be City's fault ? It sold out quickly because it was cheap, and it was only a "sell out" for away fans.

Either Villa wouldn't give us more tickets, or the West Midlands riot police refused to allow it.

Also had your 2 mates wanted to be there that desperately, then why not just turn up and buy a ticket on the day in the somewhat empty Villa stands, it was pretty obvious they weren't selling out their tickets, they'd have got in easily.

@HolteEnder , good posts, I don't think the vast majority of City fans have any animosity towards Villa. While it may seem bleak at the moment, in the league your form has improved, and you could still pull a miracle off, with a run of good results, so going out yesterday is probably more of a benefit.

Let's be honest, this empty seat fad was started by Rags as they had nothing else/left to throw at us anymore. It was then picked up by Arsenal and Liverpool fans mainly who also have issues with us. Apart from those 3, no other club, not even Liverpool if they where honest, can call our current support. Leceister is sold out. Spurs only has a few tickets left in various blocks. And our average, whether you believe the figures or not, is around the 54,000 mark.

That aside, we have lost nearly 3 generations of support to the Rags. Watching United at Derby, United's away support confirmed this. The vast majority of their away support looked early 20's to mid 30's. Compare that to our away support, which is mainly early 40's to late 50's, with younger fans mixed in.

I'd agree that the filth's away support is much younger than ours and they are not alone I've seen the likes of Newcastle and Everton at the Etihad and they seem to have more fans in that age bracket as well.

I've nothing against Villa apart from their obsession with singing 'WWYWYWS' like a stuck record, it is a good away trip, good ground even if the North Stand concourses are way to small, I'm sure they will return to the top flight if they are relegated sooner rather than later.

He's a bigger tit than the ones he used to see when he went dogging. He only tweets things to get a reaction, and it works.

For the record we're averaging 35,000 in the league which I think is decent considering we've won one home game all season, we're watching probably the worst team in our history and we're relegated by January. It will be interesting to see which way it goes for the rest of the season; people turn up and 'enjoy' being in the Premier League for the last few months (we won't come straight back up either) or people stay away in protest at Lerner and the team. I think the crowds will drop off personally unless we go down with a bit of fight.

Wasn't Collymore a Wolves fan who is now a Villa fan?, he is an embarrassment, last year it was Rangers who he had a vendetta against and we now seem to the subject of his ire.

We're already gone mate. 10 points to make up and 3 teams to overhaul, no chance. If we had a decent striker I'd give us half a sniff but they're all rubbish, we had 70% of the ball at Albion last week and we wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now.
