Today confirms why we have to stop booing the Champions League Anthem. It just gets UFFA's backs up before a ball has been kicked. Now they have VAR to use as a weapon against us.

They were looking for any reason to rule out our 1st goal. Then their 1st penalty was never going to go our way despite Otamendi trying to get his arm out of the way.

Conspiracy alert.

Boo. At every match. They don't like it.

But saying they don't like it so they will fuck us over is the talk of a madman.

I'm slightly with sweep, seen those handballs given and not given. His arms moved. It was given. Fair do's. If it wasn't given a lot of people on here would have said he got away with it.

We deserved to win by more, but we won. Happy with that.

Did anyone watch all the after match crap and if so did they explain why there was no VAR offside check for second pen goal given VAR rules do say all goals and pens are supposed to be reviewed for offside?

First pen was a joke (VAR will clearly be used to fix games we're in). Ferna clearly slipped for the second but definitely a pen but one we would never get in a billion years.
Sane free kick was astonishing. He really needs to take more. And Emerson's punt to Sterling at the end was awesome. Nice to see the return of last minute Sterling.
KDB had a stinker having his pocket picked on 2 occasions. He needs games and the rotation of late hasn't helped. He probably needs to play as DM in next leg when Fern is suspended.
Nice
I thought the BT commentary was very pro-City.

We made hard work of it, but showed real character to come back in the face of adversity.

Brilliant work by Merlin for the first. Terrible decision for the first penalty. There was no way Nico could get his arm out of the way any more than he did. The second was a ridiculous foul by Dinho. Bloody stupid!

What a fantastic free-kick by Leroy for the equaliser. He has developed a wonderful technique. More of the same, please, Leroy.

Great work by both Ed and Raheem for the winner. The first assist by a goalie in the CL this season, apparently, and Raz showed great strength to hold off the Schalke defender and put it away.

Raheem MotM.
Agreed, who'd thought Keown and Walton were closet city fans ffs?

Ah, so there is a rule which states that defenders should have their arms by their sides or behind their backs, especially when a free kick is being taken?
Watch any game of football and 90% of defenders put both arms behind their backs once they square up in the penalty area. Micah Richards did it every time.

Under the clear & obvious criterion, how can the first penalty be give? Likewise, the second penalty can't be overruled. In neither case was there a clear and obvious error. Shocking officiating throughout, on and off the pitch.

Only heard it mentioned on Five Live by Mills of all people how by the protocol the ref is supposed to consult a screen but it was 'broken ' ?and got told to reverse his decision and give Nico a yellow.........but what a fucking comeback!

Doesn’t matter. He still has his arm there in the first place making his body larger and stops it travelling at goal.

It’s fucking immaterial now as it’s happened and I’m not sure what cathartic experience is being had by calling everything and everyone bent. I thought it was a pen, I still think it’s a pen and I will always think it’s a pen.

I’d be crying out for a penalty if it was us appealing. I thought pen straight away and I still think it was now. There’s a fine line with these sort of incidents, but he wasn’t exactly point blank and his arms were outstretched. Add to the fact the ball looking liked it was on target and I can’t see how it isn’t a penalty. Like I said, if it was City in the same situation, I’d be going nuts for a pen.

Do you want to answer my point above? The law requires the players arm to move towards the ball. It didn’t, did it?
The law has never changed but the interpretation has. The laws states nothing about making oneself bigger or “unnatural position” either but every ex ref always uses those terms when discussing penalty decisions for handball.

I look forward to the day we get them penalties.......ref will be pissed that despite his best efforts we still won. Great victory vs a 15* man team away from home (*3 VAR refs).

And therein is the answer. We would NEVER get either of those penalties, even though the second one was correct.

When Talkshite are defending us and our own fans are backing the ref... Some mad paradox shit going on tonight lol
