In real time, he had no chance.

They originally said, they were going to use 'real time' as the main guide.

Just like they said it would only be used for clear & obvious errors.
From the slow motion it looks a harsh decision. From the full speed it looks fucking ludicrous. Throw in the fact they were breaking their own rules by allowing anyone other than the on field ref to overturn the decision and I think we can conclude that VAR isn’t going to stop us being stitched up. As expected really.

If Aguero hits that shot on Sunday and Luiz does the same as Otamendi, will you ask for a penalty?

Of course.

Why not, when we never get them & others do ?

It would be a lucky one if we got it though.

If it was on the goal line & nobody behind but an empty net, I'd agree with a pen even if it's a complete accident, but on the whole, we don't get those either. Just like we don't get handballs above the head or Ashley Young etc etc.

But a bloke moving his hand away, wearing a City shirt, yeah, book the **** as well.

Well done, City ... to concede 2 penalties and a red card away from home in the CL knockout stages ... and win ... is quite a feat.

Am hoping this instills the belief that we could go all the way?

Pep agrees with you (interview on BT Sport, however I am not sure he actually saw the offences. I think he's just assuming VAR must have called it right).

I didn't think either were pens.

No.1 - Ota) He was pulling his arm out of the way. It's interpretation but VAR should only be used if it's a clear error and it is not clear.

No.2 - Fern) It's a foul, but those fouls are commonplace. Refs normally ignore them.

No. 3 - Ota Red). It's a foul but there was no force. It's not a yellow.

I think we started giving the ball away too often after a good start so I agree it was not a great performance, however the closing goals were nothing short of sensational. Not only the free-kick but the build-up to the free-kick. And then the pass by Ederson. I think commentators might think it was a hopeful punt but that was a wonderful pass.

Ederson is changing the concept of goalkeeping. You can not speak too highly of that pass.
Majestic pass by Eddie. Compare his passing with the so-called sweeper keeper at Liverpool.

Come back to me when we get a game where all those decisions go on our favour. VAR or no VAR.
Im not saying whos favour theyre going for. That was not a penalty & they certainly should bot have overturned the refs original decision

No statement yet......? Cannot be that hard to type out.....or is the typewriter non functioning tonight too?

Bottom line is, we get those two penalties given for us, and an opposition player getting a second yellow for that foul, we would think we had won the bleeding lottery. It would never ever happen. Those who think it would need to point to a CL match where similar decision have gone in our favour.

Liverpool semi last year, Jesus incorrectly disallowed goal, sterling stonewall penalty, Liverpool’s offside goal given, sane’s Incorrectly disallowed goal. Oh hang on, they were all incorrect and all went against us... in one tie!! funny that hey..... oh to be reffed the same

Exactly. We could see it in the World Cup. Opposite decisions on the same day for the same offence.

In real time, anyone who has played cricket would realise that even avoiding a ball a lot smaller, is difficult.

Just the whole game is different, Newport were the first team in years that haven't dived ,cheated and feigned injury constantly . The Sunbed stealers tonight were at it the whole game aided by an incompetent Spanish Pep hater in black. It took all my restraint to not put my size 10s through the TV screen.Hoffenheim was the same.
I get it - decisions are often bizarre. However, i do give some credit to Newport - shitty pitch - perfect for the underdogs to go in hard, yet I don't think there was a single yellow card needed to be shown in that game.

Teams that succeed have these scary moments en route to their destiny. Kevin is on his way to normality. If he and others stay fit, no-one will want to play us. David was so alive to what was going on for Sergio's goal.
