Scholes hangs up his boots.

He was undoubtedly one of the best players of his generation, when Beckham was getting the plaudits, Scholes was the real genius in that side. Not many players can dictate the pace of a game the way Scholes could.

As a City fan, it used to be a great frustration that very rarely in derby games could we get to grips with him. However, it's got to be said that he's one of the dirtiest players to ever play in the Premier League. Aside from all the bookings and red cards he received, there were many he got away with. Fantastic player? Yes. Bad tempered, poor sportsman? Also Yes.

I wouldn't say bad tempered, just bad timing with his tackles. Someone said in a docu, it might have been Zidane, that Scholes takes a picture of where the spaces are before receiving the ball and for the last few years I have noticed this alot more. A quick look over the shoulder then distributes a perfect pass that splits the defence. This season in the community sheild he destroyed Chelsea on his own. A local lad that did his area proud.

In FourFourTwo a while back they had readers' questions for Edgar Davids and they asked him who the toughest (as in hardest) player he played against was and he made a point of saying paul scholes. A lot of his challenges were bad but I don't think so many were due to red mist, more to do with getting into the opposition, not letting them play, letting them know he's there and intimidating them to an extent. Fucking glad he won't be playing against us next year. I know we got the better of them and him in the semi's but the season before he was a very prominent figure in those derby games. Could just ping balls to either winger for fun which was a nightmare for our narrow defence

He was a decent player in his prime but I dont think he deserves half the credit he is getting today to be honest.

In his prime you can't deny he was an absolutely quality player. After the final half a dozen Barca players wanted his shirt, Iniesta finally won the trade, so he's clearly respected by his peers. But that doesn't change the fact that he was a bully of a player, some of those tackles were horrendous and clearly deliberate.

Good fucking riddance.

I for one am personally sick of hearing pundits and commentators drooling over his passing and having a laugh at his shocking tackles. The age old excuse that somehow a 36 year old who's been playing professional football for the best part of 20 years doesn't know how to tackle is absolute nonsense.

"Scholesy" is a dirty bastard who I will not miss.

You must be joking. It's only recently he's getting his well deserved recognition. He doesn't get all these world class players saying how great a player he is by being "decent". Barry is decent.
