That can't happen because Southgate always plays with 2 defensive mids, regardless of the opposition. In fact he has often played with a 5 man defence and 2 holding mids.
He does and that’s why he’s a shit manager. Think of all the world’s best international teams - Brazil 70, Brazil 82, Spain 2010 - none of them will be remembered for having 5 at the back and two holding midfielders!

Inferior as in not as good as.

Historically England teams have been over-hyped by the media, this one isnt.

The rag like arrogance statement can get in the bin.
England had three great midfielders playing at the same time in the recent past. Lampard , Gerrard and Scholes but they never played that well together

The three in todays team , Rice , Foden and Bellingham bring out the best in each other. This is a midfield that could bring this England team great success for the next decade. Similar to the great Spanish team led by Xavi and Iniesta

Obviously outwith Walker and Trippier there is work needing done in defence.

If anything happens to Kane there is a bit of a dip in the levels of the backups.

England have to be favourites for the Euros !

Quite laughable how deflated the Tuechters are today. Their team has been outstanding in the qualifiers (so far) but after losing a friendly to one of the best teams in World football they believe the bubbles burst. How fickle they are

What evidence do you have that Foden, Rice and Bellingham bring out the best in each other other than fleeting glimpses from the game yesterday?

Bellingham certainly stood out at times last night but I’m gonna hold off going ott as Scotland were abject.
Thought some of Englands first half play was exceptional at times and was obvious Southgate’s plan was Pep ball. Keep the ball moving along the back 4 in order to draw out the press then quick balls between the lines to get us up the pitch.
Foden stole the show in the first 45 but sadly the decision to tweak tactics and move him more inside meant his influence waned as they sat back and allowed Scotland back in the game.
There was certainly stuff to be encouraged by for England fans but it’s down to wherever the manager is brave enough to have faith in the younger flare players.
I’m not convinced he is tbh.
The fact that Fodens performance has been airbrushed from most of the reporting on the game whilst the clamour to claim Bellingham as the greatest player we’ve ever had is nauseating.

I find it really weird when Scottish people refer to Scottish national team or fans as "they", it's weird man.

For what it's worth I haven't seen much deflation. I've seen an acceptance that we were well beaten on the night by an England side who rarely moved out of second gear.

England at this time hold one of the best squads in Europe if not the world. That position is somewhat strengthened by the current mediocrity of the likes of Italy, Germany, Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal & Spain - some to a greater extent than others but none of whom can claim to have squads anywhere near as good as the 90s until 2010's. I suppose there's an argument the English side is or isn't the best they've had in recent memory but one thing for sure is that if the answer to that is no, then they definitely haven't deteriorated to the same extent as some other nations.

Agree with your point on Kane, but I think if he was to suffer an injury then they'd be best placed with a Manchester City 21/22 and adapt a false 9, that's assuming there is any manager out there who can get close to replicating what the great man from Catalonia can achieve with that set up.
