I hope thy vote yes but by tiny tiny margin so that Cameron can turn round and say that it wasn't a big enough result to carry on the terms of our referendum agreement and therefore you are staying.

When would independence actually happen if the Scots people vote yes and if this (last resort measure was not invoked [political shitstorm if he had the balls too]) are we looking at 2015? 16? 17?

51% is all that's needed for independence. 24th March 2016 is the date agreed by uk and scottish government when scotland will be fully independent.

When?

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that there's free trade within the EU and as such they're not subject to any import taxes (with the possible exception of alcohol/tobacco).

And Scotland were voted into the EU when exactly?!

Another of Salmond's statements of fact which is not his decision to make. The EU insist that new members sign up to usage of the Euro, not instantly, but certainly within a timescale that isn't too lengthy. That's not what Salmond wants, or has said will happen, so therefore no EU.

Salmond's always wanted Scotland to be in the Euro, its just not been fashionable to say so recently

Denmark, Czech, Croatia and Sweden still have their original currency

And?

How many times? You will need all 28 member states to vote you in which will not happen and even if it did, you will have to agree to the single currency as you will not be allowed special dispensation to keep a different currency.

Mr Salmond has said it's his pound and he will keep it, even though we know that's not true but all in all, it makes an independent Scotland membership of the EU about as likely as an England win at the next World Cup!

An independent Scotland won't be in the EU and will face a huge battle to gain entry, FACT Mr Salmond and not scaremongering.

Why on earth would the EU ostracise them? Not a fact at all; it's an opinion.

The EU have already said they have no right to automatic membership. Given recent history of new currencies and small economies and the sheer amount of instability a nervous world market can bring, do you honestly think they are going to get it without any issues whatsoever?

Yes they would. Common sense really. To omit them would create more instability. They will have a strong economy, with or without us and they will not be excluded.

I will bet you £500 Scottish pounds on that.

I'll take that bet and for my side put up a half eaten bag of hula hoops. Which will be worth around 500 Scottish pounds if they get independence.
