I wonder if Johnson won't sanction it sooner than people think. There'll be Brexit uncertainty for a while so no one in Scotland knows whether they're better off inside the the EU or UK, and whilst he won't want to wear the badge of being the PM who saw the break up of the union, come the next election, will anyone in England give a shit? After all, we'll be thriving from all our new trading relationships that are going to be sorted in the next year and it's 50 less MPs to vote against him.

We've been talking about the Scottish mandate but Johnson has no UK mandate to sanction a referendum given he has a big majority on the basis that there'd be no Scottish referendum and Scexit would affect both parts of the UK.
We might see one around 2024 onwards (2027ish is my guess) if the SNP continue winning lots of votes and because I think the UK will then have the resources to deal with any Scexit.
In that time, the SNP should think about reducing their deficit if they want the Scottish people to believe that leaving the UK then joining the EU is a credible option. Although, I think as soon as they start making budget cutbacks, their vote share will drop so it's a bit of a catch 22 for them.

Regardless of Brexit i think its time to start fronting up to Sturgeon. Over the next five years we should turn the money tap gradually down so she has to manage on the same amount as the rest of England outside London. If done correctly she will either quickly lose support when the jocks realise her government is pretty useless or she will galvanise support we can give her a referendum and cut them lose with their share of the debt. I dont care whether they stay or go, but I do want a fair share of wealth across the UK. Support for independence hasn't increased. The SNP vote share hasnt increased from the referendum result, despite her bleatings. She gets far too much airtime down here.
