Scottish Independence

The SNP have and always will want seperation

Brexit and the overwhelming Tory minority has given them a huge boost in their aims.

I dont blame any Scots who back them as when they voted to stay things were somewhat different.

In my view they are quite entitled to make their own decision as to whether they remain under tory rule and indeed whether they wish to be part of the EU.

There are plenty of good reasons why not. I am English and whilst i favour leaving the EU have no wish to be part of a country lead by Boris.

To deny them the choice is wrong.
The SNP vote share is no more than the vote share for Scottish independence a few years back. IE there isn't the clamour for independence that Sturgeon would have you believe. That is a fact.

Not sure you or anyone can honestly claim that (or the opposite) as a fact.

But yes, i do agree entirely, and it is probably likely true.

I think the SNP are employing the get on everyone’s tits tactic.

It is on page 43 of their manifesto!

Certainly at Westminster, hard to argue, they like a bit of nuisance.

And yet people do still vote for them.

In the Scottish independence vote 5 yrs ago the SNP led yes campaign got 45% of the vote with no getting 55%.

In this year's general election, the independence SNP party got 45% of the vote with the remain parties getting the other 55%.

So I think you can say with some certainty that their isn't any more demand for independence now than there was 5 yrs ago.

I personally wouldn't say anything with any certainty whatsoever, i like saying i think nothing would surprise me, when it comes to politics in the UK. But it still sometimes does.

Fully acknowledge the numbers and how you read into them however. It makes sense. If you assume it is that black and white, which i don't think it is. That goes for both sides tbf.

And as i said, i agree, i don't think there has been any significant shift from 2014. Not because of a distilled reading of the numbers, just my own feeling and reading of it.

Have you added the yes supporters from other parties especially Greens and taken off the no's from the SNP voters ?

When the last referendum started, the desire for independence was polling at around 15%.
It rose to an ultimate 45% at the end, having at one point reached 51% at its peak (if you beleive the polls). So if, whenever the next one does come about, the starting point is 45%, who can honestly think it might be an easily predictable outcome.

I'm yet to meet anyone that will say they have changed from yes to no. But there ars a few that openly claim to have changed frim ni to yes. Imho, i'd say probably not enough to make a difference. But would i bet on it? nnnNnope!
