But its the UK football fan you have to convince, most don't arrive until last minute.

A 3 hour concert with gates opening hours before is not the same as a football match attended by 55k, it just isn't.
Your clientele is probably a lot different too.

At the risk of opening a can of worms, we've been using phones to get into concerts and events for years here and its 1000% non-controversial (and much easier) from what I can tell. How is this possibly a big deal?

3. You won't need any App at the stadium. You download your ticket into your Apple wallet which doesn't need a signal to work. You can also download a Covid pass into it if it's needed.
4. You can arrange to collect at the stadium. Sounds like a pain in the arse though.

You should be able to check this easily by going to Settings then Connections &Wifi or similar. You should see NFC if you have it and enable it if you have.

You can get an NFC enabled phone off ebay for £10 if you're worried about losing your main phone.

I've never heard of "ticketnews.com" but that appears to refer to the first week it was in use. Speaking from my own experience, many times, it's completely fine and not a big deal.

Not sure if been posted elsewhere. But I have had it confirmed from the club that all turnstiles will close at 20mins after kick off no late entry gate at all.

Not even sure many will be aware of this but if you get stuck in traffic or the tram you might not be getting in
