Sebastián Coates

Yeah, I just had a look at the Uruguayan press reports and they say he is off to Liverpool and that Suarez helped persuade him - though truth be told it looks like only Liverpool have made a cash offer for him, our interest doesn't seem to have been followed up on.

Class signing by Liverpool, will turn out to be much shrewder business than all the overpriced local boys I think.

bit difficult to say don't you think....he's 20 and only played Uruguay's domestic league and 5 internationals so potential yes but to get thrown straight into prem football and do the business....I can't see it maybe that's why we're not following up on our initial interest.

Think he will be eased in like Savic for us, as Agger is in good form for them and they also have Skrtel and Carragher.

Sebastian Coates has confirmed that he would reject a move to Manchester City in favour of joining Liverpool.

Both Premier League clubs have made moves for the Uruguayan central defender, who is currently playing in his homeland with Nacional.

The 20-year-old revealed earlier this week that he expected a decision to be made on his future by the weekend.

Now Coates has confirmed that Liverpool would be his preferred destination, mainly due to the influence of compatriot Luis Suarez, who is currently at Anfield.

"I'd prefer Liverpool to Manchester City, but would need to see what they have to offer and would compare them," Coates told Ovacion.

"But having the help of Luis Suarez would be very important. I will be going to England, we are just missing a few details now.

"The Liverpool offer ticks all boxes, so fair to say it's a done deal. Luis's success is important for me as another Uruguayan joining.

"Liverpool is a club with great tradition and history, and Luis would be a great help to me. Suarez has spoken to Kenny Dalglish and his managers about my signing.

"He said it will be great having a Uruguayan with him, we chatted for quite a while, as he is someone I know well."

Coates shunned offers from elsewhere in Europe and admits he was waiting for the Premier League.

"My intention was always to wait, there were many rumours that I wanted England, but nothing concrete. Fortunately we have now received the offer," he said.

Coates, who has Scottish ancestry, does not qualify for a work permit automatically as he has not played in enough games but he would almost certainly be granted one on appeal.

We can't guarantee 1st team football every week, can Liverpool though ? Carragher will get his swan song this year but I can't see Dalgliesh ditching him that brutally. Sure, Suarez will be an influence on his decision but we hold the CL card and Liverpool is only down the road, you can go and visit your mate Seb.

I feel he want our higher offer to him.........

Nacional defender Sebastian Coates says he would prefer to join Liverpool rather than Manchester City.

The 20-year old Uruguay international has been heavily linked with both clubs recently but has revealed that he would choose the Reds over big-spending City.

Smacks of someone with no genuine ambition and a desire to want to be with his mates.

And this post smacks of someone who has no idea what they're talking about.

Moving half way around the world from his hometown club at the age of 20 to one of the biggest clubs in the world = no ambition?

Not sure about that.

If anything turning down the potential of mega-money at City (if he did that is, which i'm not sure) to play more regularly is to be admired.
