Semi finals (City v Real and A Madrid v Bayern)

Don't think away goals in extra time count.
If 0-0 after 180 minutes I don't think you win by being 1-1 AET.

Anyway, 2-0 at home with a goal in Madrid means they'd have to score 4.

Away goals in extra time DO count. It's supposed to try to balance the fact that extra time is played at the away ground.

In a one-off game, there would be no favourite.
I don't follow this.

If one side excels at defense and counter-attacking football, whereas the other side excels at offense but is very weak once the ball turns over, why wouldn't it favor the counter-attacking side over one leg, especially in a neutral venue?

Atletico, IMO, is the team we're least likely to beat.

Madrid, is the team, we're most likely to beat. And in fact, I think we're likely to beat them, now that KDB is in our side.

I'd have preferred playing at home in the second leg but Real were who I was hoping for, for lack of a better word.

When was the last time real' marquee players didn't start for a big game? Looking at their fixtures and them still being in the realistic mix as la Liga's title contenders (4 points from top) compared to ours (15 points from top), they look more likely to have one eye on their league title while we seem content on finishing 3rd at least with both eyes now on how far we can go in the CL. tbf there's still work for us in finishing 3rd or 4th

Atletico are every club's worst match-up, as they play parasite football.

We have avoided a serious curve-ball, although their methods are designed around two-legged football.

Bayern must be pissed, considering their possession based game will be perfect for Simeone's tactics.

The general consensus amongst fans even before the draw was that Real would be our preferred opponents, it's funny how football can work - we're still talking about Real Madrid here! But it not only shows how far we've come this year, but also that our previous efforts in the competition have given us an excellent grounding. A lot of the players we have now have already played for City v Real, they know what it's like to play in the Bernabeu and the Juventus games aside they have had a great European campaign so far.

There's no doubt about it, the Semi Finals will be two difficult games, but for reasons other posters have mentioned Athletico and Bayern would be more worrying.

Wolfsburg have shown that Real have weaknesses to exploit, Pellegrini also knows them well. If we get through the Semi Finals we have every chance in a one off final.

I told you all..Kolarov is destined to win a champions league medal with us to add to his growing collection.
Some City fans hate Kolarov because he's frequently out-of-position on defense and 1-on-1 he's an average defender.

For me, I love Kolarov. His crosses are phenomenal - his corners are very good, and while defense isn't his strong-point, so long as he's not a zillion miles up the pitch, his defense is OK.
==========
Our side at present, wins if we outscore the opponents. Defense is secondary.

Kolarov fits into this scheme very well.

IMO, it's up to the holding midfielder and the rest of the defense to cover for Kolarov once he ventures forward.
