Sergio Aguero - 2019/20 Performances

I was wondering the other day about how much Atleti Aguero would've cost these last few years and whether we'd be in for him at that price. I think by definition anyone good enough to be considered an Aguero "replacement" would require us to basically shatter our transfer record.

When you think about it the stars aligned in a way. Barcelona couldn't get him because of signing Sanchez and he obviously couldn't go to Real Madrid. I think he needed to be sold too, there's a story I've heard that we let Atlético lie about the sale price to appease their fanbase.


I'm going to be 100% honest, I don't think when he signed he envisioned staying for as long as he did. I have a sneaky feeling we were going to be a stepping stone to Real at the time; we had only won 1 trophy in our renaissance prior to his signing.


As to your question I think the only club in a relatively similar position to 2011 Atleti outside of England is maybe Dortmund. So I guess Sancho is the point of reference. Aguero would have cost a fucking lot.

I can only assume it's the equivalent of watching Henry glide up the pitch twice a season, every season, stick a couple past you, and having to shrug and say, well at least I was there to see it.

That's the thing for me, I was always used to talking about players who would stuff us. I'd love to know how it feels to walk into the away end at the Etihad, or sat as a home fan at another ground, and read the City team-sheet and watch that team walk out knowing you're likely fucked.

Only had this feeling once in the past 10+ years, when I went to Barcelona away and Barca at home. Seeing Messi on the team sheet and with my own eyes frightened the life out of me. Any time he had the ball I just assumed they were going to score.

yeah, same. A little bit of inevitability when playing the likes of Ronaldo but there was always a genuine fear playing Barca which made it so sweet when we eventually beat them. I'd say the Ribery, Robben and Lewandowski Bayern front 3 was also daunting.

I absolutely love those tight angled finishes of his. No one else in the world can do it.
