Sergio's Injury

That's one half of football. It is naive to pretend that being without one of the top 5 strikers in the world won't have a material impact.

We won a lot of games with Silva and Kompany on the sidelines. But it's the tight game where we are overall not at our best or the replacements fluff something that matter, particularly in a PL as tight as this year's is.

Its a bit sad we rarely get to see our best team out on the field, everytime one player is back another ones goes out injured.

It's also very harsh on our other strikers and attacking midfielders to assume we won't be fine without Aguero

It's not harsh, it's just realistic. You take Messi out of Barca, you think it doesn't make a difference? Doesn't make the rest of the team no-hopers.

As for the strikers themselves, if you think Dzeko can replace Aguero, then we prob don't need to continue debating this. Jovetic is unproven at best. And Negredo is very good, but a totally different type of player- that's why they gel together. Together being the operative word.

It will be interesting to see if Pellegrini uses this to really work on the 1 up front system, which we'll surely have to use against Barca and which worked so well against Bayern.

It might also suit us in away premier league games that instead of centre halves having 2 forwards pretty much in front of them, that either Negredo or Dzeko keep both occupied, whilst runners like Silva, Nasri and Jovetic float around and are difficult to pick up.

Not good news, but trying to stay positive.

Players get injured, it is a reality for every team. Great teams pick a different player and get on with it; mediocre teams moan and groan about it and let it affect them. Which are we, and which is the better mentality?

Messi being out doesn't seem to have affected Barca in the slightest.

They've lost 1 game all season in all competitions. I'll quite happily take that with Sergio out. I know Messi hasn't been out all season, but it's hardly affected their results.

Last season they were devastated by loss of Messi. This season less so as they have Neymar, but it's still affected their game a lot.
