Sergio's Offside, factually definitive or interpretive ?

Interestingly I watched the highlights last night of Porto v Liverpool when I got back from the match, when Mane scored they put all grid lines on the pitch to show he was onside, did VAR show this in our match?

Another question, why didn't VAR intervene when it was clear and obvious that Vertonghen had entered the penalty area prior to Sergio taking his spot kick, thereby gleaning an unfair advantage or that Lloris has moved before Sergio had taken his kick? Seems VAR is only used when it suits.....

I was at the match but believe not, in the same way that against Schalke the video replay screen wasn't available to the referee...

Nope it didn't. I've not seen that footage anywhere. It was just assumed Aguero was offside, and it's been done.

The nonsense about 'clear and obvious' has died the death. The phrase may well have been dreamt up to accommodate a particular incident or to shut up a reporter asking a question, who knows. But the fact that the lino didn't flag would suggest that the offside was not clear and it wasn't obvious. Uefa continue to tangle themselves in an interpretative mire that will lead to the game ceasing to have any spectator value! We might as well play the game as we have in the years past, finish with a 5-3 win and then let the papers report the following morning that VAR indicates that it was only a 4-3 win. The latter is clearly farcical but no more of a farce that what obtains as the game proceeds.
Setting aside the rights and wrongs of the VAR calls, people learn from experience. I have already stopped celebrating goals until I know the game has kicked off and the goal stands. This is wrong!

From what i have seen Sergio does look offside, the only question mark i have is that there only seems to be one angle being shown and the still that has been shown shows the moment at which Bernardo is in contact with the ball, if the next frame could be seen showing the moment after the ball has touched Bernardo and Sergio's position then i would like to see that as Sergio was moving away from the goal at the time and the defence looked to be moving back towards there own goal. Can anyone put up the two stills just to put my mind at rest?

I said this a few weeks ago: It's time the offside law was rewritten to make the whole thing easier for all and hopefully produce more goals. There should need to be clear air between the attacker and the defender. It makes the decision easier for the lino and easier for VAR. Too many times a really good run by the forward is penalised and the benefit is given to the defender. how can a heel 1 cm too far forward be determined as a goal determining factor?

and last night just emphasises a need for a law change. At present a really good movement by the forward can be penalised by him being a cm the wrong side of a defender potentially 60m away. The benefit has to be given to the attacker but sadly not at present.

I agree. I think that terminology will be gone next season. It's never made any sense to me. If we're going to have the technology then I think most would be happy with it just being applied consistently to check anything from "we might have got this wrong" to "clear and obvious".

For a leg to be in front of an opponent and then be classed as offside is stupid and almost impossible for a linesman to judge in a split second.

In my opinion, it would be far simpler for everyone, fans and officials, if offside meant the whole man is ahead of the second last defender.

But of course UEFA and fifa dont want clear and straightforward laws because that means it wouldn't be as easy to manipulate the rules to suit your agenda.
Spot on, there should be daylight as per a rule a few years ago and I think it should be measured by the torso, not a foot, hand, bell end, etc.

A lot of confusion around with the fact it wasn’t a deliberate pass by Silva. It doesn’t matter when it’s your own player, only when it’s off a defender. It was offside.
