On a serious note though, people seem to be shocked by the amount of people who die in the waterways of Manchester. I am not. It is very common unfortunately.
I can tell you that people DO bang there head when falling into water.
Nothing Spectacular?? Go get pssed and just fall into the Canal that runs along side Asda Walmart near citys ground. The incidents that I have read, the weather has been a factor. The lad from Stockport (think it was last year or 2 yrs ago) the CCTV shows him trying to take a short cut to get a bus,not knowing the area he became disorientated whilst pissed and in the harshest weather ever. Believe me the water temperature in winter is very very cold and can cause you to go into shock very quickly.
As i said re the drunk argument, Some people are just merry, others are literally struggling to stand, walk straight so levels of pissedness would have an effect on being able to swim, not panic etc.
Shouting for help..??At 3 or 4 am...Oh I,loads of people walking along the canals at that time!!
But this contradicts what someone else said about bangiong your head - and would also say there would be head trauma on the bodies. Therefore why havent we been told there are "injuries consistent with a fall" and the verdict registered as an accident. I agree in most if not all of these cases it will have been an accident but there are still issues that are interesting.
You say that the amount of people pulled out of the water is not surprising so do the numbers stack up against somewhere like Birmingham or even amsterdam. It could just be that we hear more about the local ones it just seems one every couple of months here.
As for shouting for help, how do you know the times of the incidents? ha, But seriously in centre centres and even other places the sides of canals are well populated and the city centre itself always has someone walking about.
In the case of Nathan Tomlinson who was discovered in the River Irwell, it was revealed at the inquest
1) Police ‘failed to do basics' in hunt for tragic Nathan Tomlinson
and
2) The inquest heard that shortly before he left the city-centre Mitre Bar, where friends last saw him, Nathan was slapped by an unknown woman – who was never traced
Considering all the majority of bodies which have ended up in the canal are young males, it could indicate a female taking vengeance.
What's the probability that the body pulled out recently is a male aged 18 - 35?
Also, the same DI is inspecting a number of these deaths - is that common proceedings or is it an indication that perhaps the GMP are joining the dots as well?

But these deaths appear to be happening at a much higher rate than anywhere else in the country, and also its the same type of people every time.

-- Wed Aug 07, 2013 10:24 am --

Below is a map of the areas where bodies were found within the city centre. What stood out for me was 11 and 12 - 26Y/O M and a 20 - 30Y/O F - discovered within the space of 6 days in virtually the same location.
Also, if it is those making their way home from a night out, the majority of them have made it some distance from the centre.
City centre areas -
1) Nathan Tomlinson – Male – 21Y/O – Disappeared 17 December, 2010 – Discovered February 10, 2011 – River Irwell, near the Adelphi Bridge.
2) NOT PLACED -CAN SOMEONE LOCATE. Gurdeep Hayer – Male – 20Y/O – Disappeared 2 January, 2012 – Discovered 10 January, 2012 – River Medlock, near York Street
3) Chris Brahney – Male – 22Y/O – Disappeared 29 June, 2012 – Discovered 9 July, 2012 – Manchester Ship Canal, close to MediaCityUK.
4) Michael Turner – Male – 43Y/O – Disappeared 20 July, 2012 – Discovered 28 July, 2012 – River Irk, Batty Street, Cheetham Hill.
Cheers for the map. The lad in Latchford Locks Warrington had no reason to be found where he was. From point A (last seen on night out) to Point B (home) he was spotted on CCTV heading home. Where he was found, is further back towards the town centre than the last CCTV sighting. That simply doesn't add up.

Not stupid at all mate, but itr couldn't have happened, that's the first thing I thought of when his death was in the news. I will try and find the map that was published in the news and stick it on here.
