Serial Killer at large in Manchester?

I'm going to wade in with my own crackpot theory.

A serial killer who researches his victims and picks people who can't swim before waiting to push them in when they are alone by the canal.

Does anyone actually have any data for canal deaths going back at least 10 years? - surely that will quickly show if there has been a dramatic spike or not over the last year and whether something is going on...

lol, the Madeleine Mccann thread needs your input.

The amount of people getting pulled out of the canal is disproportionate to what you would reasonably expect.

Why what is proportionate for fishing bodies out of canals, especially city centre ones?

Manchester (and Salford) has a large canal and river system. It also has a large amount of young males on nights out....I don't see it as disproportionate...

And as was pointed out by a poster native to Nottingham. They've got canalside bars and even canal paths that link to the University there. Why haven't they fished out a proportionate number of pissed up students down there?

Even if you cannot swim you can stand up in most canals the water is generally about 5 ft deep

This an article from a Dutch paper:

Over the past three years, at least 51 people have drowned in Amsterdam's historic canals, according to a Telegraaf report.

The paper says just one death was the result of a crime. All the rest were accidental and often involved drunken men relieving themselves over the edge and falling in.

Experts are calling for more ladders and life rings to be attached to the quays, the paper said.

Our students are bigger piss/drug heads....

I solved this last night when out with a few mates.

I asked when walking home pissed would they walk by the side of a canal or river.

All replied no and falling in and drowning was the reason.

You'll just have to admit that you lot up there a just a little bit fucking stupid.

Down the years I've always wondered why my grandad used to tell me when a young lad not to mix with anyone north of chesterfield. ;0)

Bit deeper in the locks!
Yep but if a person fell in a lock and drowned the body would stay in the lock as everything tends to drift towards the lock gates
