I disagree. Given has only one thing over Hart and that's experience. There's only one way to get that. Hart is 3" taller and therefore has a longer reach so technically and physically Hart is superior. Hart matches Given in all areas but wipes the floor with him when it comes to collecting crosses. He's also been at the club longer than Given so if you're talking about loyalty and giving players a chance then it really is a no-brainer. But that doesn't make him a bad keeper either which is why he would walk into almost any team in the PL. He's just not Joe Hart.

What City and Given do about it is another thing...

Personally I think it's a bit rich of Given to be kicking up such a stink after, or even before the first game. He has a contract with us so should at least give it until January and see what happens... It's only because it's Arsenal that he wants away. And it's precisely for that reason that we shouldn't let it happen, cheaply.

Basically he wants to go to Arsenal more than he wants to stay and fight for his place. V poor.

Given is proven and a much better shot stopper than Hart, Hart is disorganised, inexperienced and mush weaker shot stopper than Given. You know, it seems Given, being "not a bad keeper" didn't do us too badly for the last 2 seasons. But fuck it what does that matter.

As for size? It doesn't help Green, James..etc. Hell, Roy Keane was told that he was too small to ever make it in football.
Hart kicked up much more of a fuss than Given mentionining once that he'd have to think about what would happen if he didn't start. But it seems to have slipped your mind.
Given can't change the reason he's not being picked, he's not a 23 year old English player. So why should he waste his time.

He's just not Joe Hart. You mean he's not English, Hart has had one good season and played well enough in the game on Saturday and suddenly, he's "Joe Hart" the messiah, "God" suddenly he's an all time great, and done more in his 5 mins at the club as no. 1 than Given did, who played a major role in getting us 5th last season.

Why should he stay when he can't change the reason he's being benched. He's not English, thank God, if he was, or if Hart was French or Spanish..etc. We wouldn't be having this conversation. Hart is nothing but potentional, and no other club serious about competing for the top would have a 23 year old in goal.

Why should Given stay, Mancini is obviously pleasing the English lads, which means screwing Shay over, so why should he stay, especially when clearly he isn't valued here.

Whatever his nationality Joe Hart was immense on Sat. Perhaps thats the real reason he got the nod.

Longterm yes, but Given did nothing to get dropped and is still better than Hart, and more proven. It's one thing to accept that a player is being dropped because he's not good enough, but to be dropped purely because of age and nationality, something you can't change, must be so hard to stomach. And that's it. Hart's not better than Given, but he's a future English star apparently so that gives him a huge advantage, the English press and manager must be all to fuckin delighted as they got their way. There was no way he'd start Given. Being young and English is what the Premiership wants now. While our best player is sitting on the bench going in cold to Euro qualifiers.

The single reason Hart starts in goals is because he's potentionally a good English prospect. If Hart was French or Dutch etc. We wouldn't be having this conversation and that's the truth of the matter and that must be absolutely impossible to stomach. And people want him to stay and fight? Fight what? Because he can't change his age of his nationality and that is what is keeping him out, not form or skill.

Potentially? Fuck me, you need to take your green tinted goggles off, Hart is a class act. Not saying he's any better than Shay is, but 'potentially' a good prospect is pushing it a bit.

Its a tweet FFS, lets see what happens before we all start flapping.

It takes more than a season at a mid table club and being behind Green and calamity James in the English team to say he's a top class keeper. He's potential, but as many potentially good English keepers like Foster, who have a false dawn, they fade away. I'll wait maybe 12 seasons before I compare his contribution to football to Given's.
But as he's English, ah sure he's the best keeper in the world. FFS. And I'm bias.

And all the evidence suggests that Given would have turned in just as good a performance without half the fuss, but after Hart turns it in, he's "God."<br /><br />-- Sun Aug 15, 2010 11:45 pm --<br /><br />

Said it before, but it just doesnt seem to register - cant speak for other blues, but I couldnt give a flying fuck whether hes English or not. He's young, he quality, he could be between the sticks at City for 15 more years. Rather see the 34 year old leave than the 23 year old. Simple maths for me.

You want some salt and vinegar for that chip on your shoulder ?

At least you admit your biased. Hart is number one because hes bigger, stronger. Younger, better. He proved that on Saturday. Nothing to do with him being english. we have 20 odd nationalities in the squad FFS.

Thats it in a nutshell. Both quality and I'd rather we offerd Shay some sort of lead-in coaching deal so that he transitions Joe in and still gets plenty of games himself.

Re: we've agreed to let Shay Given join Arsenal

Given is currently better than Hart but Hart has the potential to be a better a keeper and be our and England's #1 for years to come, the only way Hart will reach that potential and overtake Given is by playing every week.

No disrespect to Given though, who is one of the all time Premier League greats and is without doubt one of the best in Europe.

Hart wins imo, and Mancini made the best decision of his short reign so far by deciding to go with him, ask yourself this, which club has ever won major honours and dominated without a 6'3+ beast in net?.

Re: we've agreed to let Shay Given join Arsenal

can't see it happening. This would be us handing Arsenal a top 4 spot and maybe even the title.

Wenger said he wasn't signing Given or Hart and made no comment on Schwarzer, who apparently handed a transfer request in at Fulham.

That's what I'm believing until an official outlet tells me otherwise.
Lol at believing Wenger, you clearly don’t know our great manager. This is the man that denied when Rafa said we made a bid for Chamakh, but he choose Arsenal, all I can say is congratulation to Arsenal for getting a good player. Wenger was like rafa is responsible for what he says, I don’t know what he’s talking about. He’s never gonna admit a player he’s after
