Doesn't need publicity for elections. His younger sister is the current Prime Minister.

John Wardle had to pay the staff wages out of his own pocket a couple of times. Then he sacked Sven and we had to pay the second instalment of £15m on the players Sven bought and we didn't have it. He tried to sell players behind Hughes' back to find the money but MH threatened to walk out and he had to back down.
At this point we were left with no way of paying the money and the accountants were in looking at the books. They recommended going into administration and the PL were desperately trying to get someone to put a rescue package together. However no one would touch us with a barge pole as it made far more sense to pick up the pieces afterwards. I was involved with a group preparing to do that and we looking at paying no more than £2-3m.
I'm not sure how (I think it was through a City fan that specialised in sub-prime finance) but he somehow conjured up a loan of about £25-30m from a South African bank but that involved us sacrificing Sky income for years ahead and we'd have certainly been finished within the next 12 months.
Then the Sheikh came along (and it wasn't through Thaksin as popular myth has it). In fact, not only did he not help the sale, he positively hindered it to the point where ADUG nearly walked away.
He paid £20m to buy the club, nearly ruined it and walked away with (I think) £60m. As an example of what a complete skunk he was, when he took us over, he "bought" the £20m loan the club owed to Wardle & Makin at a big discount (up to half). So W&M sacrificed a lot of money to help the sale but when ADUG came in, TS took every penny of that £20m.
