Should Lescott get a new contract?

Yes definatley we're short as it is, and when he's played on the left side alongside vinny we look solid
it wasnt long ago, vinny was making the mistakes and lescott was the better of the two... cos it was vinny, and he was our captain and leader, nothing was said... lescott gets some unfair stick on here imo.

As long as its on a reduced wage and its made clear that he's back up to Nasty and Vinny I don't see why not. Granted I shit my pants everytime he receives the ball in and around our 18yard box and his distribution comes across as though he's shit his own pants, but he still has enough quality as a defender to play a part in our immediate future.

I actually still rate lescott if he has a run of games he can do a very good job for us. Obv he's not first choice but give him a year or 2 extension money shouldn't e to much of a problem. How much is the new guy we signed on demichilles.

I like Lescott... Seems a nice guy... However, he is quite obviously pretty intelligent as he has for at least a year said he is happy to fight for his place... This, to me, means he knows the writing is on the wall and he probably knows he is on his way out.
Personally, I think we should have strengthened this position as part of our early summer signings.
But we didn't because we didn't invisage the injury problems we would have in this area.
I would have liked us to look, again, at Agger but now the transfer window is shut we can hopefully get to January and then redeem the situation.
I would be happy enough giving Boyata a run rather than trying to patch-up things at the back.
It is a critical part of our team and when you look, historically, at the Premier League, it is usually the team with the least goals against that win it.

Only to be a squad player, he gives me the willies everytime he has the ball!!! Nasty a better overall player.

Lescott is nowhere near as bad as some posters on here make him out to be. Should he have a new contract? If we can re-negotiate his salary then yes. I think this would be more than possible as I don't think too many other clubs will be prepared to pay him what we pay him now. As we know from this season we need all of the experienced central defenders we can get - just in case.

Rubbish. Lescott was never a top four player - made to look good by having security blanket in front of him, the england keeper behind, and the best central defender in europe next to him.
Now he's exposed and his frailties are too. I've never rated him - and 23m was utterly ludicrous. Kolo Toure was the better defender...........................and he wasnt good enough either.

Let's get Richards in there in the League Cup and FA Cup and maybe even Rodwell to see how they make out. They both have pace and aerial ability too.

Not for me

he seems to be the only player in the current squad who looks uncomfortable on the ball

he is an accident waiting to happen ie his trip/slip on the half way line against Hull (which luckily he got away with) his assist for cisse against QPR

nasty is already a better left sided centre half and he is still learning his trade we should be able to do much much better than him for his stupid wages that idiot Hughes put him on

-- Mon Sep 09, 2013 5:22 pm --

Not for me

Not off us, he has never lived up to his alleged talent, nor have I ever seen any sign in a City shirt that it ever existed, that the clumsy c*nt crocked our new signing in training sums up his value to the club, zero, show him the f*cking door

Did Sparkless decide the wages too? Jaysus the Taffia really did have some control over things didn't they?

If we can negotiate his wage down then I'd give him a year extension.

I like JL and he's one of the champions. However with Rekik developing into a fantastic player, and with Nasty already a fantastic player, not sure that it'd be right giving JL a new contract. Would rather that squad place went to Rekik next season.

Rekik won't need a squad place as he'll be still under21. I don't see the harm in having them both in reserve, Karim could learn a thing or two about life in the PL from Lescott.

I think instinctively if a manager has the choice between an experienced centre half like JL, and a young one like KR, they'll go for the experience. In terms of development I'd prefer if KR was clearly Nasty's understudy. But I totally take your point ... it certainly wouldn't be harmful and JL's a top professional and the more English players in and around the dressing room the better IMO.

So yeah on reflection lets give him a contract just make sure that he doesn't block KR's progress!

I would be comfortable with Nastasic and Rekik as LCBs with Kompany and Demichelis as RCBs - if we're in big trouble then we can still use Micah or Javi there. I do believe that Karim after one season with a top Eredivise side who plays in the European League can reach at least Lescott's level. Joleon was great for us and I love him but I think it's just about time for him to leave after his current contract expires.

Though Vinnie should stay fit for the majority of our season...

It might make sense for us , but think Lescott deserves better than being 3rd choice when he could get regular football at a few premier clubs, and possibly still get in an England squad.
