Should we be looking at new kit deal?- new update pg34 Chelsea NIKE DEAL

Tennis and fashion, but I was using them as an example.

I think as a club, we could take the kit up another few levels in terms of quality.

A vast majority of football clubs are absolute crap in terms of quality, including us.

A high quality kit, would sell in the bucket loads.

People are paying 50 quid plus for sh1t, why not charge say 60 quid but for a very high quality product.

The new York Yankies went from a American Football Team to a worldwide fashion brand, why, great marketing and good product.

I think you might be missing the point a bit on the kit deal, mate. The best deal for the club is not going to be dictated too much by who makes the best product. If we had Fred Perry making the shirts I'm sure it would be really popular with local fans and we might shift 20 or 30k more shirts to fashion conscious Mancunians, but in the grand scheme of things, that won't make that big a difference to us.

The thing Nike give us is exposure and distribution.

I go to the States every year, sometimes twice a year. When we had Umbro produced shirts, the quality was excellent, but you would very rarely see them in sports shops in the States, whereas you'd see rag shirts, Arsenal and Chelsea everywhere.

Last summer I went to New York and Miami and City shirts were displayed prominently in every single sports shop I went in that sold football shirts. City had a big display in Niketown in New York.

If we had a contract with Fred Perry we would get nowhere near that level of exposure or distribution. Even a huge sporting corporation like New Balance can't get anywhere near Nike or adidas in terms of worldwide distribution.

The growth in shirt sales for us is going to come in the US and Asia. To expand our supporter base and reach as many potential new blues as possible, we need to be aligned with a manufacturer who has the distribution network to be able to reach every corner of the globe. Nike are the best company for that, adidas second, and the next nearest competitor comes nowhere close.

thats going to take years of success to change that though, we are no way near as popular as those teams. tbh id rather lose money and have good quality kit that stuck to our traditions.

I am not missing the point.

It's time that fans stopped getting ripped off by kit manufacturers and for that matter clubs!

As fans we are asked to pay crazy prices for crap.

As a club, I would love City to come out with a game changer. A very high quality, fashionable product.

You right in the expansion of the US and Asia markets. But there are numerous other markets open for us, if we take the right step.

Associate this club with total quality products, on and off the pitch.

Now is the time to expand the fan base around the world, mate. The interest in football in the US and Asia has never been higher. You've seen from the huge deals that Nike and adidas are signing that they are investing in the future for the next 5-10 years to cash in on that appetite.

Personally, I'm the same as you, I'd rather we stuck to our traditional colours and identity. Sky blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks (navy for me). If it was Fred Perry I'd even consider buying one for myself!

But the reality is that our competitors are signing deals for £50m plus with Nike and adidas and having their product shifted all around the globe. We will be left behind as a club if we signed up with Fred Perry and had a brilliant kit that respected our history and appealed to mancunian tastes, but couldn't get it distributed around the world.

Sheikh Mansour wants us to be self sustainable, and we as fans all want to be competitive on the field of play. If it's a choice between an extra £40m to spend on players every summer or a nice Fred Perry kit, I'm going to go with the £40m, I want us to be competitive.

But it is possible to have both. In 30 years The Shite have had 3 kit manufacturers, they've consistently had the biggest deals in the league, and they've always remained true to our identity - red shirts, white shorts, black socks.

The difference is, the executives at their club demand that the manufacturer adheres to their identity and history. I'm sure Nike would try their bull shit with them - oh this season you're having pink sleeves and red shorts, and they'd be told to fuck right off.

The manufacturers will take the piss as much as they can to generate headlines and exposure for themselves. It's down to the club to not let them get away with it.

Don't New York Yankees own or part own Legends who do our catering and hospitality now. I'm surprised Legends haven't taken over our merchandising from Kitbag. Also isn't it baseball.

Lol sorry my error re Baseball. But we could learn a lot from them.

The manufacturers are taking the piss, and we as a football club are allowing it.

We are the real deal thanks to our wonderful owners over the last few years, and we should be doing the dictating, the days of going cap in hand to Reebok, LeCoq' or Nike are long gone.

A traditional and high quality home kit, that everyone in the world associated with Manchester City Football Club is what we want and deserve.

My point was more, we already work with the company that do the Yankees merchandising, on the catering side, why not let them take over the merchandising.
