As an american and a man city fan, this makes absolute sense from a marketing standpoint.

Right now the biggest european clubs in the US are man u, chelsea and barcelona. But since we're relatively new to soccer a club like man city is very appealing. Signing our marquee player would really put man city at the forefront for capturing the US market. And that means lots of $$$.

Win win for both if you ask me. If he ends up playing even decently well, man city could easily become the top team for new american supporters.
