We have the best players, but I am not sure we have the depth that would allow us to compete in Cups and the League.

If a star player like Bale becomes available, I hope we go for them, otherwise I'd go for young players like Hoillet who would be prepared to fight for a place in the squad.

A little bit uncomfortable with players like Hazard, who I don't know that much about. If we sign him, he'll expect to start, and so will Silva, Nasri etc. As it is, we're struggling to give players like Dzeko and Milner games.

An ideal squad is one with about 15 star players, and 10 young players. We have 20 star players, but not many young players. We need to flesh the squad out, but we can't do that by adding stars to it as they just aren't going to plat each week.

Our targets will realise that too

Everytime we buy a real star we need to sell. If we get Hazard, AJ has to go. If we get Martinez, DeJong has to go, etc...

Tevez needs to go. The world needs to understand that what he did will not be allowed at City. That said...yeah those three should do.

Replaced with Cavani, yeah i'll take that ;)

Me too...we don't need to step down in quality. Get rid of the guy that put himself before the club and get someone as good....or better.

All day every day. Get rid

I agree with both of you

Disagree

We dont have to sell anyone who is a member of the squad we have to get rid of the three loanees Ade, RSC and Bridge, not only does that free up substantial wages we might even get some cash in as well.

The squad is determined by the prem league rules and Champions League squad rules, unfortunately both are different. What is apparant from what Mancini has been saying is we did not have sufficient quality in depth to manage both last season. IMO we can add two players to the current squad without having to sell anyone.

Signing Martinez and Hazard would give us more depth, they are the right age and both players can cover different positions.

For Hazard he can play almost as a second striker, out wide or as a creative playmaker, for Martinez he could play either in defence or as a defensive holding midfield player as well. Both players are young enough to be developed even further.

If I had my way (not likely) I would buy both these players and then call a halt. If the likes of De Jong, Tevez or AJ wanted to leave and we got the appropriate fee then we re evaluate and replace them not before.

To many stars in a squad is not good, everybody wants to play. Nj, Aj, Milner, and 4 strikers 4 worldclass strikers is to much. Then we have Barry, Yaya (Hazard, Martinez) Nasri and Silva. This is not FIFA! These players got EGOOOSS. You can´t make everybody happy. If Hazard and Martinez joins us(which I dont believe) then Aj and Nj has to leave simple as that. The last thing you want is to have players murmuring and spreading negative around the team because they are not playing. Personally I believe 4 worldclass strikers is to much. Someone will be dissapointed...

This is not FIFA!

Never played it, you may be right and I could be wrong, but provided all players accept that rotation will happen, Mancini wants us to win every match (in theory) which means almost a 70 game season. I think provided he doesn't use any favoritism but players are picked on merit and tactics I beleive that squad could get on without too many sacrifices.

Manchester City will begin their summer spending with a £25million offer for Athletic Bilbao defender Javier Martinez.

After missing out on Chelsea-bound £32m Belgian winger Eden Hazard, the Premier League champions are resolved not to lose the race for Martinez.

The 23-year-old excelled as Athletic reached the Europa League Final last season and will be part of the Spain squad defending their European crown.

Manchester United and Barcelona have also been tracking Martinez, but Roberto Mancini wants a top-class defensive recruit after being priced out of a move for AC Milan’s Thiago Silva.

Mancini was told it would cost City £25m plus Pablo Zabaleta to prise the Brazilian away from the Italians when he visited the Milan training ground last week.

That was too expensive even for City, who have now set their sights on Martinez. City’s hopes of completing the deal before Euro 2012 kicks off on Friday is optimistic, although they did sign David Silva two years ago during Spain’s triumphant World Cup campaign.

The Blues will also have to be patient in their bid to land Robin van Persie as the Arsenal ace will not decide about his future until after the Euros.<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-city-will-begin-their-summer-spending-860821" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... ing-860821</a>
