Re: Javier Martinez Bid to start summer spending

He is going to cost more than 25m, he has a buy out clause of 40m euros which I reckon is close to 38m. If I was Bilbao I would want full amount no need to sell. Given his potential and reading posts from others seems to have the lot this lad and at 23 even if we paid the full amount I am sure he would actually gain in value.<br /><br />-- Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:59 am --<br /><br />Oh by the way Mods can we please merge the Martinez threads.

I know you've probably not meant it in that sense, but that sounds incredibly arrogant. Why wouldn't they turn down 25m, they're a huge club over there with a superb local fanbase and squad. Martinez is 23, can play 2 positions, a world cup winner and back in the Spain squad for the upcoming european championships. I really don't know what you mean by "a club like Bilbao"

Would be a fantastic signing, i've been critical on this board of some of the names mentioned, suggesting some are ego's as opposed to any great players who would make a difference for us. Martinez though? Ideal.

Has a buy out clause of 40m euros which I reckon is about 38m. They have no need to sell unless player wants out and I haven't heard he does. If you were AB i would see it as an insult to offer that amount of money. If they do sell it will be nearer to the buy out clause than our initial opening bid IMO.

Also Bilbao are stupidly rich cash wise

At today's ex rate 40m Euros = £32m

£32m is probably what we will have to pay for a top player like Martinez. I know People are saying Athletic don't need the money but they are building a new stadium - but I don't know how that's being funded (it may be the local government but they can hardly be flush at the minute) - hopefully a more robust plan than the one Valencia came up with.

lets pay over the odds and avoid insults please, ha ;o)

I think 25m value is very realistic for Martinez, he would want CL football and chance of winning a medal - City offer both.

He has hinted already "I'm not worth 40 million price tag" he wants out , he's concerned over the release clause tag price, (get real Bilbao ).
