Out of all the players we have been linked with, this is the one guy I am truly excited about. Yes we do need a pacey winger but an upgrade to DeJong and cover at CB is a greater need. I don't see FFP being a problem so long as we get rid of the deadwood hence why no acquisitions yet. We have seen some deadwood move on e.g. Pizzaro, Hargreaves and Taylor which free up some wages but no fee. Bridges move has probably given us back 10k a week. If we are in for Martinez then DeJong will be gone which gives us circa 8mill and around 70k in wages. If Ade goes for 5mill we will free up circa 170k in wages, if Santa goes the fee will be 1k and wages saved of 80k. Guidetti is rumoured to be off and fee of 8mill seems sensible. Weiss looks like he will be sold for around 4mill. That's 25mill for a bunch of players that don't play with the exception of DeJong but his position is being upgraded.

Then you have Boyata and Savic. I think 1 will be sold which would gives us very nearly the funds to meet Javis buyout clause.

You then have Dzeko, Tevez and Johnson. Dzeko funds = Van Persies aquisition price so that isn't a problem and his wages will be covered by Ade's sale.

If Johnson goes say for 15mill and tevez for 25mill we have the funds for Cavani. So the net outlay is zero. That said we will have to spend some money to bring in a 3rd keeper and a pacey winger.

Should just promote Johansen instead of buying a third keeper. It's only Stu Taylor we're replacing at the end of the day, with all due respect to him.

Good shout, throw in the sales of MJ and Kolo and the net outlay is even less.

Frees up another place in the squad as well because Johansen is home grown same as Micah.

No bombshell, but the argentinian continues as manager of Bilbao.

If Martinez is going I don't think the manager situation will make a huge difference.

Barcelona are willing to pay the 40M buyout clause of Javi Martinez if the player lowers his salary demands, which he would want to do [tv3] -- via @barcastuff

If that's true it's game over.

De Rossi it is then. Not a bad second choice at all. :)
