Silva can count his City gold
By PHIL THOMAS

DAVID SILVA is set for a pay rise that will take his wages to a whopping £200,000 a week.

The Manchester City playmaker will still have two years left on his current contract at the end of this season.

But Etihad powerbrokers plan to sit down for talks shortly and discuss a two-year extension, which will see the Spaniard's pay leap from around its present £150,000 mark.

The salary hike will put Silva, 26 two days ago, alongside Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero, and is already in budget plans.

City bosses will hold talks with a number of players at the end of the season to discuss deals and contract extensions, including Vincent Kompany and Nigel De Jong.

But they are determined to keep Silva, signed from Valencia for £23million in the summer of 2010, out of the clutches of the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

There are certain players you just dont take liberties with their contract, Silva is one.

Real Madrid turned him down when he was 14, I always get the impression that Silva hasn't forgotten that.

this might be a revelation but guess who was the head of Real Madrid's Youth Academy when they turned him down? - Vicente Del Bosque

he actually made it for 3 months though, but was eventually turned down cos he was "too short and too thin"

Oddly he was the only player signed that summer to a 4 year not 5 year deal, make of that what you will, but I hope we tie him down long term soon.

Maybe David wanted a shorter contract incase he didnt settle to living in England.

I would imagine Roberto is aware of the whole situation regarding David Silva. Expect an extension to the contract he already has.
