Sky (bet) sports and Paul Merson

Always found him a decent bloke. Clueless about football so hope he doesn’t bet on that!

Hope he gets the help he needs. Has had a bit of a rum life!

I quite like him. He's relatively harmless, and he genuinely loved it when Aguero scored that goal, 'love bites and evewyfink'.

I would enjoy asking the betting bosses about that. It is a throw away comment at best, at worst betrays a severe lack of understanding regarding human nature. I would ask them how such a comment can be used when human nature dictates we become invested in behaviour even if destructive; That getting out of such a nasty downward spiral can take more than a simple mental switch of "stop". We just don't work that way, never have and they know it.

I'm very close to two separate people who have made their millions with one of the big 3 firms and let me tell you, they would never put a penny down themselves and see it as a mugs game. So much so one retired in their late 40's as they had ethical issues with it.

I just don't get it. I've never gambled but one lad I know was telling me how much he won this year. I sat him down and worked out I'd made more on the stock market with a fraction of the cash he'd gambled and I knew nothing of the markets in December. He was physically ill looking when I told him that.

If you do it lads, just stop it.

The amount of gambling advertising on TV is ridiculous and multiple demographics seem to be targeted. I have the occasional bet of football but only a couple of quid on first goalscorer.

The amount of games that have no element of judgement influencing the outcome (at least with horse/greyhound racing you can make an informed choice of bet) is crazy.

"Farming" of daft people either through on-line gambling or payday loans is a massive industry that should be clamped down on hard.

It's no-one's fault, but it's the individuals fault? Don't they contradict each other? Sorry mate, but you've fallen for the propaganda that anyone who sells addictive or harmful shit puts out. It's never their fault for selling it and deliberately targeting vulnerable people. It's the addict's fault, even though we know quite a lot about how the brain of an addict works and how they struggle to have the same individual choice as a non-addict. Just keep blaming individuals and watch the problem get worse and worse. Or accept there's a systemic problem and actually do something about it. Those are the options.
Totally respect that opinion....
It is however the individual..........
Pubs are open 24/7 . Every second advert is alcohol. It's 10.35 am here ....why am I not drunk ?
Because as an individual .....I choose not to be?........or who would you like to blame for my sobriety?

It’s the governments’ fault for not treating it lie it does cigarettes.

I’ve known decent people ruined by it. More then I’ve seen killed by the fags actually.
You mean the government that hasn't even got us out of Europe after 2.5years?

He needs new surroundings, how about talkshite, his legendary wit is perfect for that excuse for a radio show, him and Gough ... The dream team...
he would end up addicted to Selco(its where the trade goes ya know) ,he would have cement mixers and spirit levels coming out of his arse.
