Smart meters - what is the purpose?

Is there a known downside to having one and will your gas and electrickery still cost the same.It's akin to Luddite-Mania on here !

That's what I've been trying to figure out gunny. No fear about getting one, just can't see any benefit

I grabbed one Mr Maine as it was part of the deal for the year.Mine is in my play room and does little harm.Today is the first time I have looked at it and it it's consumption readings are £44 Trickery and £4.50 Gas.I have no idea if that is for a month or a quarter.In a short while it will be time to seek out the lowest supplier on the market for another year with the help of my best pal Martin.

Keep getting nagged by my energy supplier to have one of these installed, but have heard some people advise against it. Is it worth doing or not?
