Snow - School Closures

Well as a self confessed serial grumpy old get....I would be the first to winge if I thought it was a case of teachers taking the pissss, but as someone who works in schools i can categorically say its not teachers who make the decision on a whim, in fact the ones who are getting year 6 ready for tests would prefer to be in, believe me....the schools shut for a number of reasons.

1. Staff cant get in so the pupil to adult ratio is bolloxed, illegal, anything happens......................litigation
2. The school is dangerous to pupils and staff..........................anything happens......................litigation
3. The busses cant safely get kids to school............................anything happens......................litigation
4. The 1950's heating systems cant cope, kids get cold..............anything happens......................litigation
5. The figures for attendance plunge if school is kept open, looks bad on ofsted and inspectorate

One this one PLEASE don't blame the teachers....BLAME the compensation culture.......

The little fcukers get a day off because it's snowing and too cold for them to attend school. What do they do? They spend all day outside playing in the fcukin' cold snow!

Its just an excuse for their idle fcukin' teachers to have even more time off!!

exactly

I went to school for 7 years in the 70/80's to Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School high in the penines and not once was the school closed due to snow (and we had several winters as bad or worse than this) - if the buses weren't running we walked (3 miles)

everyone is too soft/lazy these days?

My son's school is closed, but it would be a nightmare to get him there. We live in Moorside which is next to the moors. We haven't seen a gritter and the school is on a hill. There is no way staff can get to the school never mind the kids.

Counthill? I live in Moorside as well, with kids there. to be honest though, even a sprinkling of snow and the staff at Counthill declare it a disaster zone... my youngest goes to Hodge Clough and that was open whilst Counthill was shut... closed now though.

I've been phoning the council and emailing them about gritting round here... disgraceful! High Band council tax as well..... They haven't even filled the grit boxes.... where abouts in Moorside?

NO WAY! YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! ;)

Tickled me too...........

and brass neck's was a load of bollocks too

I work in the legal profession and have not heard of any such claims being brought (in Bury)

The best day of school was when it snowed. Teachers got pummelled in their own class rooms. People running round picking on the year sevens.
Putting stones in the middle and throwing it in a crowd.

Fucking quality they dont know what their missing.
