So there's an Irish and a Scottish girl in Peru.......

Re: So these two Irish girls in Peru

I feel sorry for them - they were young and daft, and we've all been there, but thankfully our mistakes didn't mean a life ruined in a foreign prison.
I trust all of those who do condemn them out of hand have never had a cheeky line of Charlie in their lives, because if they have then they are utter hypocrites, given that what they were snorting was probably brought in by some sorry drug mule just like these two.

greedy stupid girls. call me old fashioned but I as a dad wouldn't let my young un go to Ibiza looking to be a "hostess", where's the upbringing ffs.

I have never touched any form of drug fetters, had half a cig when I was 13 if that counts. put me off for life :)

Re: So these two Irish girls in Peru

They will be tried and found guilty it's quite obvious they were not working for a big organisation, yes I feel sorry for them the lure of easy money has caught many a person out, there are quite a few Brits languishing in Peruvian jails nowadays, another two life's ruined because of our crazy drug laws

I take your point about upbringing mate, but at 19 you can't keep them locked up forever.
Unless you are Josef Fritzl.
I just think it's an incredibly sad waste of two young lives, and for smuggling a drug that is relatively harmless they will probably serve as long as a child killer.
As Ducado said, the laws on drugs are simply bonkers.

Would go along with all of that

Re: So these two Irish girls in Peru

Just stupid really. At least its not some place where they will be shot until they are dead or stoned or some other horrible crap but 20 years in prison is still the good part of your life taken away. They seem fairly normal girls, they obviously could not plan this themselves but they are complaint in the smuggling of it which makes them guilty. Offered big money for a "quick and easy" job and unfortunate took it

Unless they were being threatened like they said

Obviously there's no way of knowing but I'd be interested to see how many people actually get away with this sort of thing.

I would imagine it's got to be at least 70%. It's a numbers game for the main smugglers.Factor in a certain percentage that will get found, write that down to a loss and they're still in business.

Re: So these two Irish girls in Peru

They say they were forced to carry the packages but had no idea they contained drugs. I seriously doubt they're so naïve they didn't twig that there was something dodgy in them even if they were really "forced". Have they said why they went to Peru? Their parents thought they were still working in Ibiza. Their plane tickets were for flights via Madrid to Majorca. They sound like classic couriers to me.

Re: So these two Irish girls in Peru

My extensive knowledge of law (...ahem) makes me believe that they've got no chance of getting off claiming they were under duress, as the threat of harm needs to be imminent for duress to be a defence.

Possibly bollocks I just made up though.
