So what price a fully fit MJ?

I can't beleive the negativity people on here have towards him, it's like you want him to fail. Yeah he liked a drink, but it wasn't like he was going on the lash the night before the game like Tony Adams and Merson etc. So what has it got to do with us if he does have a few beers? It's not directly effecting us on the pitch, he's not getting pissed and trying it on with the other players' girlfriends. So the fact he drinks a bit it irrelavent.

He's had two bad injuries, only played 10 minutes in the 09-10 season against Scunthorpe, yet Booby still included him in the 25 man squad. That says to me that Bobby still has faith in him, and all the coaching staff to do. So why doesn't anybody else?

We're all desperate for him to succeed.

But having suffered two serious injuries, and his career being on the line... if it was me I would be doing everything in my power to make me stronger and fitter and ready to make a recovery... not going out on the piss, and putting huge amounts of weight on.

It's a bit like someone having a heart attack, and the doctors are claiming that he needs a heart transplant to recover. Do you eat loads, drink loads, smoke loads and hope for the best? Or do you lose weight, get fit, get strong and hope that the operation saves your life.

Everybody makes their own choices. I'm just disappointed in the choices Johnson makes.

Speak to MJs dad fairly regularly.
If fit at the start of the season he will be going on loan to Leicester,Leeds or Espanol.
Leicester is preffered by Mike due to rapport with Sven.

The "if fit" bit is the problem. Surely they should know by now whether his injury is recoverable or not?

But he has kept his nose clean for a while now, so why is there still some who persist with the 'used to be always on the piss' attitude?

Vastly over-rated and over-hyped player. A handful of decent games under Sven, but a lot more anonymous performances than anything. For me, a lot of our fans put him on a pedestal just because he came through the academy and is a local lad. It's natural that you want him to succeed, and I would love him to do so but, in my honest opinion, he isn't good enough. He wasn't then and unfortunately injuries have curtailed his development. He's missed pretty much 3 full seasons and time stands still for nobody. By all means loan the lad out and let him forge a career elsewhere because he will not make it at a top 4-6 club.

Good luck to the lad and I hope he does prove me wrong, but I just can't see it.

My analogy still stands. It's like the heart patient deciding a couple of days before the operation to clean up his act.

Johnson should have been keeping his nose clean from day one. Being overweight and unfit clearly wouldn't help his rehabilitation, would it?

He made his choices. In my opinion they were the wrong ones. I said that a couple of years ago, I said a couple of years ago that he was finished at City (and got slaughtered fotr it!)... you can't treat your body in the way he has, while recovering from serious injuries, and not expect it to make things worse.

It's sad how it has panned out, I've seen the lad since he was in the youth team and I had high hopes for him. But he hasn't helped himself.

Time to move on, Alcy who was starstruck and didnt have respect for the talent he had, wasted talent but time to move on, free with future sell on clause, wasted money on wage bill, we must have paid him 40k for two years for nowt.

Errm... isn't that one of the biggest reasons that the player signs a contract? You get injured, you still get paid. Could City may have insurance against this?

I can't help but feel that this ship has sadly sailed on. It would be almost unique for a young player to return from such a long injury spell, suffered during his formative years, and go on to forge a spectacular career at the very top of football.
On another note, the OP's question of putting a value on the lad reminds me of when Paul Lake was out injured and his supposed value (in the tabloids, I mean) went from £1m to £2m in the space of a year - without him having kicked a ball.

I have to agree with some on here, we do big are academy players up to levels that are not justified, but MJ was the exception. He had a lot of talent and he pissed it up the wall and for that its a disgrace. If your a professional footballer, you SHOULD NOT drink alcohol, i mean FFS, you have a short career, there is plenty of time when you hang up yer boots to do that.
In times past maybe thats what players did, but now things are different, the football athlete is a different animal........ its called being PROFESSIONAL!
