Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Whilst Phillips was poor yesterday all this hate towards him is well over the top. When he was at Leeds and during the Euros I thought he was absolutely brilliant. When we signed him I was delighted. Talk of bad attitude is speculation, his weight couldn't have been far off as he's back already. I expect him to be a key player for us by the end of THIS season. He's too talented to fail.

He spent 4 weeks floating around on a lilo in Qatar and comes back with his derby hanging over his shorts, Pep pulled him on it but then he's back in a City shirt the week after. Rodri preservation is one thing but this kid isn't the answer and wont be even a stone lighter, Id say its people like him who are a bad influence on the team with his shit attitude to his fitness.
To be fair, Aguero was interviewed about this a couple of weeks ago & said if City say your optimum weight should be no more than 81kgs & no less than 79kgs, you're in trouble if you're a gram over or under. He said he & several others have fallen foul of this.

I know it’s disappointing losing to Southampton when everyone thought you were nailed on to win but Jesus, there’s some right miserable pessimists on here given you‘re favourites to win the PL, CL and maybe even the FAC. You’re the best team in the league with the best squad and best manager looking down at 18 teams beneath you in the league and you’ve won 4 of the last 5 PL titles. Theres no pleasing some people.

He was excellent at Leeds, one of the best, most consistent midfielders in the prem over the last few seasons, the stand out England player at the Euros. One bad half when nobody in lime/black covered themselves in glory isn’t going to define his City career. Let’s pray he comes on towards the end at OT to solidify our 3 nil lead
I agree and I hope he improves.
He might not have the personality to play in our team (big fish small pond at Leeds)
Jack might be sufferring a bit with the same issue (generally he's done ok in my opinion but we are still waiting to see the best of him)
The more I think about Delph its amazing how well he did when he came into the LB position. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and rose a level. Thats what these players need to do.

Your lot hounded out the greatest manager in your club's history in one of the most toxic assaults on a manager in the last 10 years. Glass houses, stones, etc.

We beat Liverpool 3-2 in the previous round, but the three goalscorers didn't start last night.

Not saying that's why we lost, but it must be a contributory factor when debating any possible complacency.

Because of the colour clash, it was often difficult to know which player had won the ball in a close tackle. It didn't help with the commentator failing to identify the players but preferring to waffle on with meaningless stats.
We had a game earlier in the season where the opponent had light shirts, black shorts and light socks and we wore our nausea yellow 3rd kit- they basically told me I was daft for not being able to see the difference.

It feels like some of our players this season are not listening to Pep or giving their all for him on the pitch. He's been constantly on about body language and attitude in press conferences alot more than usual, feels like that's aimed at some players in the locker room that are not listening to him. Hope I'm wrong
Kev looked like he'd seen his own arse all of the world cup whilst there, Phillips still thinks he's a hot shot at Leeds, no way should a player return from a world cup fatter than when he went, he should have used that time in Qatar to get his fitness levels up and ready for the return to his club, he should have returned lean and ready to go. The main issue to me is we just haven't played a settled back 4 all season, and our fullbacks bar Walker and Lewis just frankly aren't upto it at all. Id say there is a bit of dressing room politics going on, some of our squad are being carried by others.

That was the worst ever performance in recent memory, maybe since 2008, I can remember some really bad away Europa League ones under Mancini but............

Is that before or after a good dump?
