Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup | Post Match Thread

Players and management straight up the tunnel getting ready to board the flight home while the poor fuckers who went had a 7 hour coach trip back. But in coming weeks pep will be out telling the fans how we need to fill the ground and help the team!!! Well it works both ways appreciate what the fans do for the club every game not just wen we win. An absolute embarrassment that last night had me fuming more than the performance.
at least pep stopped foden just walking off
he then walked over and gave a fan his shirt

Having had a little time to absorb what we witnessed last night - and to be fair in a couple of other games recently (Everton, Brentford) I think it is clear we are missing leaders like Dias and Ferna - I have no doubt in the squad's ability to be up for a big match - the performance against Liverpool after the break a good example.

I fully expect we will play at a much higher intensity on Sat and we will be a different team - The issue is when we are playing lesser teams, our energy is off and we don't look great. In the recent past we have had players who would just not let any drop off happen, call it professionalism, call it sheer determination to win every single game, they would not accept it. For example last night Gundo was the leader of the front six yet was very quiet and didn't impact the match at all, we settled into lethargy and it is hard mid game to change that mindset. In other words I think we risk becoming a big game team, when the crowd are up for it and there is a tougher game on paper they all excel. I think the above also highlights how fragile our depth players are, it's all v very easy when we are battering teams and you come on for a short cameo it's when it's tough and you need to dig in that makes the difference. We've had that for a number of years but since the WC you can see a small change developing - Pep even alluded to it re body language etc. Maybe I'm wrong but something wasn't right last night.

We def need Stones & Bernie back at the weekend and for the run in we need a fully fit Ruben back - remember how he galvanised the entire defence with celebrating a simple clearance - in my opinion we need that mentality.

I predict we shall batter the Reds on Saturday because it is now a big game.

Just striving to understand why we were so poor last night without over reacting...

the second half went exactly as i said to poor bloke next to me. we didnt score early and then the falling over started every teams got it nailed against us, the only thing i was suprised at the soft ref played or started 6 minutes of injury time

I admit that my memory is far from perfect these days but, that was one of the worst performances in recent times that I can remember. I saw no sense of urgency until around the 94th minute when Ake was trying to hurry up and get the ball back in play in our own box.

It was the worst performance since the first half of Chelsea away, not too long ago. We're absolutely miles off at present, playing like a team who have just met. One out of ten for everybody last night just for turning up, zero for Pep

This season we've gone from being highly consistent in our performances and will to win to being flakey and inconsistent. We now don't know which City is going to turn up from game to game. Brilliant one game, as against Chelsea, to shocking the next as against Southampton. Actually this malaise started towards the end of last season but some individual skill got us through. We were dreadful against Villa the last game until the subs. To the new fan's.....welcome to typical City, us old hands know it well.

Palmer gets bigged up massively on Twitter and I've been aboard the hype train but recently I just feel he's not ever going to be at this level. I'd ask how many assists, goals, or assist to an assist he has but I suppose that would be a little unfair as he often comes on late.

I rate the keeper as back up.

When we first got Gomez I was very impressed. I still think he could be decent for us.

Walker just seemed to have an off game, Phillips not played enough to judge him on last night, Foden looking a bit like he wasn't up for it.

Pep rates Gundo, he always proves me wrong but I always feel he's not suited for many of the games he plays.
I think they just weren't up for it. Or that arsed.

I dont understand the Logic Pep wasn't that arsed, thus put out a team not to win.

He brought on all the Big Guns second half and risked injuring them before the Derby.

Yes we were shit last night, and have been most the season by our own high standards,Still we are in with a good chance of the League.

My most endearing memory so far this Season was that first half absolutely battering the Rags.

Even in that Derby game Pep couldn't resist ruining something special, which really pissed me off at the time, and actually still irks me to this day.

We are 6 goals up and the Rags are in total disarray, capitulated.

And just like that Pep starts taking off all those having stormers off a game.

We would have scored 8,9,that day instead we lose some of the gloss finishing 6-3.

Happens so often with him these days. No idea why he does this shit.

Always saving players for the next game. Always chopping and changing.

Sure we were bad last night. Pep though along with Cancelo deserved a 0/10 for his crazy first half team selection.

The fact he tried to rescue his own fuck up after giving the Saints a 2-0 lead to hang on to by bringing on the Big Guns was even crazier.

He made his point about the competition first half.

I am worried he over thinks the Big games way too much. And has too much faith in his own genius.
Apart from the fact that we weren't 6 goals up at any point.

If you're going to be a flapper, at least make the effort to back up your nonsense with accurate facts.

Palmer has stalled, like a lot of young players do and if he's ever going to make it here he has to start influencing games.

I did but he was hopelessly out of position for the second goal.

Jury's out. He's young but a big improvement needed.

Walker will never be a center half do long as he has a hole in his backside. A very good fullback end of. Phillips first full start in a year but he has to hurry up and get up to speed. Foden is a bit of a worry, a bit like Palmer he's stalled a bit.

The whole team turned up expecting to stroll through the game. Too many changes and tactics didn't help and like a lot of City sides in the past we learned the underdogs will always raise their game and if you don't give 100% and battle from the off you'll get beat. So it proved.
